Normally I would agree except sometimes posters omit information that they sometimes later add in comments because they know if the comment was in the original post it will lead to them being an AH and sometimes posters try to downplay things/reasons for why those around them reacted the way they did (for example, if the poster has an undisclosed history of always wanting the center of attention or in this case denied being pregnant each time they were asked in later months). I do think most stories have some information omitted somewhere especially in cases where the person is obviously NTA because then it makes me more curious if they are holding information back. But yea I've taken time off from reddit aita sub because you never know what day people are going to project their own issues onto a poster. Commenters are rarely consistent. Hot topics such as "is it an AH move to bring food to another person's home" for yourself or your child because the food isn't something you eat, like or can tolerate is a daily toss up..

This ain't about controlling symptoms - it's about having responsibility and respect for your hosts. If you had a seafood allergy and someone invited you to a party in a sushi restaurant, you would tell them about your health risk. OP knew her health, her 'condition' and how far along she was. At eight months you hit the point where the baby can actually come anyday. The mother should be ready for good or for bad and OP, knowing her situation, should have told the host about her health. But she didn't and made a scene. Sure, she couldn't control her symptoms but she knew her health history and how much along she was. She didn't prepare the host and in turn took someone else's day - that they prepared and paid for - and made about herself with a huge scene. Of course no one cared about the hosts because who would - someone else are now in an emergency situation and their baby is at risk. Of course the party was ruined and celebrating someone's baby (which was the reason everyone was gathered there in the first place) turned into only caring about someone else's secret baby that was now supposedly in danger. It does not matter if OP meant it or not - she made a babystunt when there as no need for one.

I was looking for this comment. I kept waiting for the crucial detail that turned the OP into the asshole, but it never came. OP said she didn’t want to go to the dumb baby shower, the SIL then pressured her into going. The fact that the SIL’s immediate reaction was anger about her family member “stealing her attention” rather than concern for her health and safety says a lot about that woman, and none of it good. My bar for disowning a family member is high I will say as it should imo as they are family and you do naturally feel different to them than a random stranger on the street as you naturally should....but you shouldn't put up with the same crap for so long. As long as you reach your position with reason and decide what is best for you and everybody else then I don't see an issue. It's only when the bar is super low that I do like mistaking pronouns so my 17 year old friend who's a girl disowns their parents...like it shouldnt be a light ez decision. Hi there! I studied to be a teacher! It is against the law of education (at least in the U.S.) to give out personal information about students and their parents. For the one with the waterslide, I feel like they should just weigh everyone. When I was a kid, I always used to want to go on one of those trampoline thingies that were popular at fairs. I was always scared to go on because I was insecure about my weight, but the fact that they weighed everyone made it a little better. You can tell it's just for safety measures, whereas specifically pointing out people who might be too heavy can feel like discrimination. And if you still feel uncomfortable (like I did, sadly), you'll probably have to sit that one out, which sucks, but it's better than getting injured. That way, at least you can't get called out if the same rule applies to everyone. I can't imagine the humiliation of being specifically chosen from a crowd of people, especially if it's just by someone looking at you. Note that this isn't a rule for ALL Muslim-majority countries (and not all religious countries), but some theocratic governments (if she lives in a country with one) can punish you for not believing in a certain faith. Even without punitive law, obviously some families or communities might ostracize you for not practicing the same faith as well. Even if she isn't literally risking her life to allow her daughter this level of freedom in choosing a lifestyle, she's probably worried that the dad wouldn't have allowed this if he knew their daughter wasn't following certain traditions. If the third story took place in the US, what the teacher did is illegal. It violates the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. Schools do not need written consent to give out information, but they must tell the child's guardian what they plan to do and give them a reasonable amount of time to opt-out. Can I just say, coming from what I assume is the same religious background as the person in this story, that this is not a religious norm but a cultural one. In too many places, cultural norms have become synonymous with the religion when it suits the people in charge. I can tell you, as a woman, that this is a complete abuse of faith and this is coming from a person whose dad is a religious leader. I wasn’t raised like this. Context as clues for the last story (based on experience cause I'm from a region where this is prevalent): - While religion is mentioned, culture/society is probably the bigger factor - whichever place they're from probably makes it extremely difficult and dangerous for women to be independent, educated, and have agency over their bodies. - There might be laws out there that make it worse, and beyond laws, there will be social "vigilante" justice against women/girls who don't do what they're told. - The age gap probably means it was an arranged marriage, and in that case, the man might come from a family with social status (including connections in high places) and more money. This is especially evident in him treating it like "his" money, not their money. Meaning the wife can't escape him if she tried, she has no wealth of her own and the wrath of the clan comes down on her if she stands up for herself or her daughter. She essentially chose the safest path to get her daughter out of that space. Any other path and she'd have risked both their lives.

You weren’t actually hurt by this and yes it’s upsetting it happened because you worry what else she might be doing in poor judgement, but move on or try to see if your other kids can avoid having her as a teacher in the future. How is a teacher going to be punished? Does he expect her to be suspended? That seems extreme. Does he think she shove fired? Also extreme. How else should she be punished for this action? Being informed why we have strict confidentiality policies and being reminded of those is what should be done and if there’s any other issues that’s been happening with her behavior and teaching, then she can be further assessed. I don’t understand people’s need to have others punished. Maybe they didn’t do a very good job at showing concern over the situation so maybe that’s the problem.

From a safety perspective their reason is bullshit though. I'm an engineer, when we design things we kind of assume that people don't know the exact mass or there's for variation. So we work what we expect the structure to handle regularly and then we multiply that by a factor of safety to get what the structure can actually support and withstand. In this case, as it is a matter of safety and life or death a factor of safety of 3 is best practice. So what that slide should be able to handle is 250*3 which is 750 lbs. @@BeyondTrash-xe1vs It's perfectly reasonable. She leaked a personal information of her students. She's so dumb, it's almost hurtful. I'm not a parent but I can imagine the fear a parents must go through when they discover that reckless approach to handling personal info of their kids. For example, someone shows at her class with a camera and a fake media lanyard and gets a kids adress "'cause it will be so awesome to be in the media". Honestly, calling her a moron was mild. Sure, it would be better if he went straight to the principal but come on... And let's not resort to the pop-psychology with the "anger issues" when a person has a reason to be furious.

have a hidden weighing scale on the floor. x marks the spot. ask suspected overweight visitors to stand on it while waiting in line. measurement readings should not be displayed publicly but in a way where only an employee can see. tech stuff. keep the scale switched off when not in use. when buying tickets for the park, terms and conditions should include that weight measurements may be taken randomly without warning for safety reasons. their data will not be stored or used for any other purpose than assuring their safety for the rides.

Coming from a similar culture as the last one, I'm on OP's side 100%. I was actually in the same situation, except it was my mother who wanted me to get married while my father wanted me to go study abroad and live my life. OP just wants her kids to have an equal footing in life and be able to go out in the world.
