Fun fact: Judy’s nose twitched when Gideon was bullying her because she was scared, but it didn’t twitch when Nick pretended to be savage, hinting that she was acting.

When Dylan was talking about how Disney needs more movies where they teach kids to give up on their dreams, instantly made me think of "Monsters University" and the real message it teaches that no matter how hard you may try in life, there's just some goals you can never achieve. Not only does it teach this real message but then it shows that it's okay when things don't go your way and that when one door closes, another one opens and you begin to realize that there's so much more to life than a dream and that while you cannot achieve one goal, there's another one that's made just for you, you just have to let the first door close. It's one of the realistic pixar movies for that and also the reason why it's one of my personal favorites.

I may be reaching here, but it's also pretty great to watch as a disabled person. Obviously it could apply to anyone, but people often tell me I can achieve anything I set my mind to, and the only thing disabling me is my mindset. So watching a film where the main character can't achieve their goal, but is still happy and still achieving other things felt like a breath of fresh air.
@thefifthbean
@thefifthbean Жыл бұрын
@xeoney yes that's a perfect correlation! Def not stretching at all, the movie was made so that people who were born or just have disadvantages know it's okay when things don't turn out the way they want, they still have a purpose that they just dont know yet 😌 Mike wasn't able to become a scarer because of his looks, which is a very harsh reality, but for a kids movie, they gave the message perfectly and I rlly wish we had more movies like that. It's such a touchy topic but it's a message I wish we could see more often, especially when it's done right

Animal wise, Mr. Big was perfectly cast using the arctic shrew instead of the polar bear. They're vicious, carnivorous, at times even cannibalistic in their ruthlessness to survive in an unforgiving environment.

Definitely, they also have to consume more than their body weight everyday. Sort of reminds me of a funny tho kind of scary fact, that the dog breed with the biggest teeth per pound.. is a type of small terrier! And that one of the most aggressive dog breeds in the work is a Dachshund.

Most people get the reference but also it's a family movie and many adults find it funny even if the kid is too young to know about the Godfather. i like how the mixed in some of the social issues, but they start to mix their references making one group seen as "naturally dangerous" but also the herbivores are the "token" hires; it makes the meaning of the story a ton muddier
@gwahbwahuwah1127
@gwahbwahuwah1127 7 ай бұрын
It still lends to the idea of prejudice - grouping a whole species to some idea they’re “naturally dangerous” is something like race or just judging them off something that’s out of their control
@pierceschuyler1517
@pierceschuyler1517 5 ай бұрын
The small herbivores like Judy and Bellwether are supposed to represent white women (small, weak, incapable, can be pushed around/aside) and the specific prejudices that white women face. The predators are supposed to represent racial minorities like Black people and Native Americans (agressive, savage, “bad nature”) and the specific prejudices that they face. Minorities like white women have their own struggles and are still applicable as minority hires, but they can still be racist because racial minorities face different struggles than women and cognitive dissonance becomes increasingly prevalent the more privilege an individual has. Often those in power pit minorities against each other to maintain said power and there are also issues of things like intersectionality. The movie is accurately representing the messiness that issues like prejudice have in real life.

A fun fact I think Dylan would like a lot; In the original draft of the movie, the Predators all wore electric collars that would zap them whenever they got to emotionally excited. ANY emotion. The reason being that this was seen as the only way Predators could be trusted and they could co-exist. "Zootopia" was a secret theme park run by Nick that would allow Predators to remove their collars for a few hours before having to put them on and go back to society. There was a pretty dark scene that was semi-animated, with a Polar Bear cub having a birthday party where he's old enough to now require a collar. He's excited, as he thinks he can be like his mother and father now, only to get a sharp shock when he starts celebrating, at which point he realises what they're actually for. Nick and Judy can do nothing but watch him cry with his parents about it.

Funny you should mention that… In real world policing there is a thing called FTO or PTO depending on your department which is a Field Training Officer who rides with and supervises the fresh rookie for their probationary period after academy. They will absolutely throw you in the deep end of junkie town and tell you to figure it out. You can for sure get stuck with the shittiest places on night shift as a rookie because you have no seniority to pick your beat.

@@OnlyCops This is the real answer. Your FTO will usually be riding with you (you’ll be riding with them to be more accurate) and will work with you and guide you through your first few months. Then you’ll likely be put on the graveyard shifts.

The movie was originally gonna be a lot darker; there's a deleted scene called "Taming Party" and just....man. The emotions in even a deleted scene are palpable. You feel Judy's confusion at seeing a taming party, where a polar bear cub gets a shock collar (all predators had them in this version), you feel Nick's fear and resentment and also resignation that this is how it is, you feel the father's concern....I almost wish they went with this version, but I understand why they didn't. Seeing baby Nick be forced into a muzzle is rough enough.

@@matthewvink4065 I considered it for a bit, even spent a summer as an apprentice to one who was researching forest development and regrowth. A lot of time out in the field to document the vegetation at sites that had been studied for decades as well as new ones. Specifically, regrowth from a forest fire and new land/sand/gravel bars recently formed by rivers shifting. On a new sandbar that has Alder trees(shrubs technically) just starting to take root? There can be over 500 of those tiny little tree sprouts in a 10 foot circle... I know because I had to count them. Ended up keeping my plant studies as a hobby, my interests always leaned more towards the food and medical use of wild plants anyway, but it was a great summer. I like Earth Science, Biology, and Zoology as well, practically memorized the animal encyclopedia set I had as a kid. 😋

Like surely some time for adjustment is in order. And it's not like school teaches you everything you need to know. They aren't going to give a brand new, fresh from the academy cop even a piece of such a massive case on her first day. Besides, that stuff does still have to get done, policing isn't all fighting crime. It's mostly paperwork and waiting. Also, for the walter white sheep pun: Woolter white.

One of the things I love about this movie is that they never make Nick and Judy romantic. The focus on their friendship growing and being important is so refreshing, especially being a male/female relationship. @OneRandomSam

They wouldn't have promoted weird relationships in a movie for the family- weird meaning kind of biologically wrong, seeing as they're not of the same species and are even prey vs predator. But on the other hand a lot of people thought they were gonna end up romantically 😭 like when they're in the sky tram and she puts her hand on his arm, when they tell each other they loved each other, and overall their teasing and witty dynamic could have been easily made for an enemies to lovers relationship. And the writers even wrote a scene where they were in her apartment, and then her parents call and think Nick is her boyfriend. But yes I agree, they had a really nice platonic bond and I stan their friendship.

tbh the idea of Zootopia's society has a lot of plotholes, but what really sells this movie are the fabulous character dynamics and that not just the protagonist has an arc, but nearly every single person isn't what they seem to be in the beginning.
