I’ve always said the short stocky guy is the most difficult body type to fight. Judo or karate. It’s like wrestling a fire hydrant.

true im actually the oppesit exept for the fact that Im short but fighting against those guys is always a challange. you can only get them by getting them out of thier ballance to use thier bodyweight aggainst them .👌 (My english is not the best)
@roberttompkins9991
@roberttompkins9991 4 жыл бұрын
Paul x I usually try to use distance on them, which isn’t easy for me because I’m aggressive and really like to get in and control the inside which is where they are stronger than me. Ya never want to be right in front of them. But fortunately, my experience is that for some reason short stocky guys want to try and fight like a tall lanky person, (short man complex I guess) they overextended themselves and that’s how I’m able to handle most of them, they have to make a mistake. but if they embrace their low center of gravity and short range advantage like Yasuyuki does in these videos, they become so tough to beat. And I’m kinda a thick man myself, but it’s the shortness that give them the advantage. Like how to you bend a tree stump? Answer: You can’t! You can only pulverize them.

Agreed. It's the same thing that happened to Tae Kwon Do. Traditional schools were badass and sparring was intense. It was replaced by the point fighting system were they basically train to tap you with kicks to get a score and not to give damage. You slowly see the same trend happening to BJJ. I love martial arts going mainstream but it gets really watered down.

Judoka here: guess why do you need to unbalance your opponent BEFORE trying a waza? Because otherwise it WAY harder to move otherwise. Think about it: in order to WALK, we need to unbalance one of our feet, shift our leg forward, then we rebalance the foot by placing it back to the ground. We do this unconsciously, but it's really that simple if you think about it. So how is a waza thrown? You either shift your opponent into a weaker position (i.e. with one of his legs off the air) OR you intercept its movement by not allowing his foot to touch the ground. Both these methods have one thing in common: they use unbalancing of your opponent. This is why this man is so strong. It's not just his wazas, it's his method of shifting the equilibrium of his opponents. Put those things together and BAM! he wins.
