A great modification that as a Judo practitioner myself I would add works just as well in Judo to prevent your back from being taken. Well done.

Try a Wrestlers inside trip:: The setup is underhook overhook, pull the underhook to make your opponent step, inside trip push forward and sag down causing your opponent to fall, from there you cover working for your pin, for MMA to your ground and pound. In this take down you are never giving up your back. Yes it works for Judo because when I competed in Judo all my throws were Greco-Roman Wrestling I would make it work for Judo, and very successful. Good luck Judoka's

I learnt kouchi makikomi in the 1980s and have been using it successfully in different contexts since then. It is super effective and very easy to execute. And it seems that young guys doing MMA, BJJ or whatnot these days know no other takedown than a poorly executed double leg so it surprises them if you do anything else.
@MMACoach795 жыл бұрын
Judo takedowns in general can be very surprising exactly because the most people are concentrating on shooting takedown defense and offense.

Can I do this in the gi in judo? I’m a white belt with some no gi experience and I hit this takedown with a fairly high percentage and it’s super easy compared to throws. I don’t intend on competing in judo tho so want to keep my practice to moves I can use in other grappling. And yeah I tried the regular kouchi makikomi my first day of bjj. Man I nailed it cleannnnnn! And then was defending a rnc two seconds later 0_o
@MMACoach794 жыл бұрын
You could but there is a greater chance of it not working. It depends on the opponent and your skills.

whats the difference with ouchi gari, I don't get the main difference :l
@kevinzk717 жыл бұрын
Felix David Cordova Garcia this one sweeps the front or contrary leg, Ouchi sweeps the back one
@jimmyalderson16396 жыл бұрын
Felix David Cordova Garcia it's the arm Makikomi means to apply wrapping to something, usually these throws are done where you wrap your opponent's arm around your body and then sacrifice yourself. In this case you're wrapping yourself around your opponent's arm and sacrificing forwards As for this vs kouchi, kouchi is just a sweep As for kouchi and this vs ouchi, ouchi gari reaps the other leg. That might seem like a pedantic criteria to judge a throw by. Why not just have it be a variation of ouchi? Why does it need its own name? Because this throw actually works quite differently from ouchi, despite using similar motions. Kouchi is like judo's version of a jab, ouchi is more like judo's version of a cross
@lapurdy716 жыл бұрын
@@kevinzk71 No. Ko/O uchi difference is the direction the thrower's leg sweeps. You put your foot between your opponent's feet, if your leg sweeps towards the blade of your foot, it is O uchi. If your foot sweeps to the inside of your foot (arch of foot/big toe side), then it is ko uchi.

Filip Petrinovic in kouchi gake you dont go the ground where as makikomi you do
@jimmyalderson16396 жыл бұрын
Filip Petrinovic it doesn't really matter. I always called this 'kluchigake makikomi', and i think that's what Kodokan Judo calls it as well. But when our coach taught it we weren't sure what it should be called either Call it whatever you want, just call it ippon
@twotracking8 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't want to land in someone's guard. This would be more useful in a street fight assuming your attacker doesn't know how to use his guard.
@MMACoach798 жыл бұрын
I also prefer not to end up in guard, but sometimes it's better to get the takedown and fight from guard, than not getting anything at all. If possible, I try to get side control after takedowns.
@kevinzk717 жыл бұрын
twotracking well I guess you don't like using double leg either, right into guard like most tds.
@ANZACJugger07 жыл бұрын
Why on earth would you go to ground in a streetfight???
@jimmyalderson16396 жыл бұрын
twotracking 'assuming he doesn't know how to use his guard' Mate... Are we also assuming his spine's made of titanium, and also knows ukemi?
@RealmsOfGames6 жыл бұрын
@Mario Maldonado Don't think you've ever been thrown on concrete lol not pleasant... though I agree if the guy has a couple friends maybe staying on your feet is better. But doing this full speed on the street with someone who doesn't know how to land from takedowns can concuss and earn you a charge... so there's also that danger
