How lovely to see Norma and Judy laughing like that. They seem like they were good friends, and yet I didn't even know they had met each other, two of my favorite actresses!

They work for MGM, Norma does drama and Judy does musicals. All the stars on one lot know each other, even though they may not make a movie together. Here Norma and Judy with George Raft, are laughing at what Hedy ( across the table ) is making a joke. Private info according to Myrna Loy who said that Hedy had a real sense of humor .

Hattie McDaniel had to enter the building in the back. Also, she did not sit at the same table with the other nominees from "Gone with the Wind", even though she was one of the evening's winners. That's not so glamourous.

I wouldn't disagree with that but then I wasn't there. Child star Shirley Temple worked with a talented black dancer (Bill Robinson) during that era. Shirley wrote that Bill Robinson was not allowed in the same hotel she was allowed in and she was unaware. Most people aren't aware that in Santa Rita New Mexico segregation existed. My grandmother who was actually Native American was escorted from her seat in a Santa Rita Movie theater from the white section to the Spanish American section (probably in the late 20's or 30's). The schools had separate bathrooms for white Americans and Spanish Americans. Native Americans usually spoke Spanish due to Spain's influence in the American southwest. Mexicans think it due to their influence. My mother deeply resented racial segregation up to her death!

Clark gable did fight for her. P.s they are just actors not some revolutionaries or politicians or reformer or anything like that. They were doing there job and got a reward for that . They tried for their black co star . But that was the only thing they could do at that time. It takes time to make a change . They did their part and others after them did too. And now there is a better society for all the black.
