The Jim Queskin Jug Band featured a fetching young Italian singer named Maria Grazia Rosa Domenica d'Amato who later married Geof Muldaur, (Maria Muldaur) Here's a very short clip of Big Fat Woman Blues. I highly reccommend buying the DVD this is from.
(Some have said this is from 1968, so I've amended the title, it used to say "1966")

Just thought some people would get a kick out of this. I'm old. I remember seeing Maria and Geoff (before they were married) and the whole Jim Kweskin Jug Band when I was a teenager, back in the 1960s, in Provincetown, MA. They would play tiny coffee houses where they could pack in about 50-80 people. You could sit close enough to touch them. I've seen them perform all the phenomenal songs on their old "albums" and CDs. I have the very best memories ever of growing up in a wonderful time, a safe time, a time when music was fun and not political. I wouldn't trade those memories or experiences for anything.

I live in San Francisco & was fortunate to meet Maria & become friends & go to see a Kweskin gig together. I've loved Maria since the beginning of the jug band, & look forward to her next live gig or recordings.

Every hippie's favorite jug band, I saw them around 1966 at the Fillmore Ballroon in San Francisco on the corner of Geary and Fillmore streets (before there were Winterland, Fillmore West, Fillmore East)

It's from the excellent Dylan Documentary by Scorscese. If you want to see a rare Kweskin Jug Band clip see the documentary on the Isle of Wight festival by Murray Lerner "Message to Love" (1997). He needed to test his camera and he used them to focus on!

Thank you, I'll look it up. Murray Lerner also made the great film "Festival!" about the Newport Folk Festival.

In fact…. I think I need to change my comment from 14 years ago. I think the Kweskin clip I’m thinking of is in the documentary “Festival” to which you refer. I don’t think Jim Kweskin played the Isle of Wight festival. @@Dulcimerea

Thanks for posting this. She is so cool to hear. I was a youg chickie waitress in a little place where Jim Queskin and His Amazing Jug Band showed up to play one nite. They were quite amazing! I shall now search for more of them on youtube!

Jim Kweskin with a K. My parents had about 3 of their albums. I bet there's very little video of them, so any clips of any lengths appreciated. Oh Don't You Leave Me Here was righteous, and their version of Memphis was a treasure.

It was Maria D'amato back then. She hadn't married Geoff Muldaur yet (also a member of Kweskin's Jug band).

I saw this band twice in the late 60ß early 70s, SF Bay area. Fun if you like that sort. I wasn't into them then, but love hearing them now.

I confess, I just listened to "Midnight at the Oasis" again. And it met my hopes and beyond. It's magnificent. So I want to tell you about the day I met Maria Muldaur. It was at Newport, about 1967, or 8 or 9. The field where the "workshops" and low-stage concerts. She was walking along with a friend. I ran up with my Nikkormat, and said "Can I take your picture?" and she turned to her woman friend and said only, "I wish people wouldn't ask me that!" and then I snapped a picture. I developed it- it was Plus-X 400 film- at home and printed her face on 8x10 glossy paper, and since then I've lost it. But if you look her up on Wikipedia, it was that same day, You can see why a young man of 17 or 19 had his life changed by a moment.

Didn’t Keith start a weird, offbeat religious cult group that entangled Kweskin and others for a number of years…?

Jim Kweskin's Jug Band issued this song "I Ain't Gonna Marry"with Maria singing on "Garden of Joy" (available on CD)- though I prefer the tempo and balance on the fragments posted here and by smile67.
