Hi Derek. Experienced the same thing, even with new callipers. It turned out when the flexible brake hoses get old, they can crack on the inside and form a one way valve scenario. If you do go down the road of changing them, make sure you have a copper flaring kit with joints and couplers as the hoses tend to badly corroded to the connectors.

Do you know, I was thinking that when I checked my hoses! Changing them will be a garage job though. I don't like messing with brake pipes.

Oooh, be careful! Always gives me the heeby-jeebies watching somebody wind in one piston of a twin-pot caliper while the other one's just sitting there. When you're doing the left-hand piston, you can see the right-hand piston starting to creep forward. That's why you need one of those ratchet piston tools. ;-) Also, when you're servicing your brakes, don't forget to inspect the mounting brackets to ensure that pads can seat tidily and aren't catching on any build-up of rust or crud. Don't think I've ever serviced brakes where the caliper brackets DIDN'T need scraping/filing to ensure the pads could seat properly and move smoothly.

Good point. It did not show well on the video but I had opened the bleed valve to let the fluid out.

@@sleepycatpictures1176 Yep. I realise YOU'RE smart enough to have the bleed open AND keep an eye on the other piston while you're pushing one back. Mate from work had to buy a new caliper because this exact thing happened. Bleed open, one piston stuck, pushed it back (probably with a prybar or something similar) and when it finally moved the pressure couldn't escape quickly enough and it caused the other piston to pop out. He asked me if he could refit the piston but I suggested he just buy another caliper, bung it on and THEN try to fix the other one. Dunno if you've ever tried refitting a caliper piston but it can be one of those fiddly jobs where you take hours doing it oh-so-carefully, finally think you've got it done and then you see a tiny sliver of rubber and think "Ah, cr*p!!!" I'm willing to tinker with almost any part of a car but I prefer to leave computers and brake parts alone.

@@SiCrewe I have a new seal kit in my collection, but have neither the inclination nor the guts to actually use it. I would think something similar to a piston ring compressor would be necessary to get the piston back in. Yup, leave brakes to the experts!

Hi. I presume you mean the rubber doughnut inside the coils of the road spring. To be honest, its real function is as a spring assistor when towing. So it should only be used on the rear springs. I cheat and fit it to the front springs because they are old and saggy. These spring assistors lift the suspension back up to normal ride height. It is only a temporary measure until I can get around to fitting new springs and shocks. Greystone Spring Assistors.
