Another B Side and another superb vocal from Grammy winning country/pop singer Juice Newton. As the 3rd single lifted from her breakthrough pop success: 'Juice' in 1981, came a reworked version of 'The Sweetest Thing' (see my recent post) and 'Ride 'Em Cowboy' was the B side to this Top 10 hit which made not one, not two but three different charts in America - and two #1's - on the Country & Adult Contemporary charts as well as #7 Billboard Pop.
'Ride 'Em Cowboy ' was penned by Paul Davis who had scored big time with 'I Go Crazy' in 1977 and achieved a hit himself with his own song back in 1974. In 1982 Paul had a pair of chart successes with 'Cool Night' and '65 Love Affair'. Juice's version builds beautifully and is another excellent flip side to a wonderful single. Whilst her hits 'Angel Of The Morning' and 'Queen Of Hearts' and the aforementioned 'Sweetest Thing' were riding high, Juice was busy recording her follow up 'Quiet Lies' which was released 40 years ago this year. I have, (youtube copyright permitting) a restriped clip of the first single lifted from it. It is a hoot and a half!
