After two years of research, and because of this review I purchased the juki dx7. I am mighty new to machine sewing. I first purchased a little kids sewing machine and practiced, and to also to see if I would want to take up sewing, without wasting money if I decided not to. I am a very avid crocheter, and thought that learning to use a sewing machine would be a great enhancement with my crochet skills. Also, I've always wanted to be able to make my own outfits and quilts . I am by no means rich and it took me about 3 months to save up for the purchase of this machine. One of the reasons why I purchased this machine because I know that I cannot afford to purchase multiple machines, as my needs may grow, so I needed a really good quality machine that is going to last for quite some time. I look forward to growing and increasing my skills on this machine. My only concern is that if I ever do need maintenance, there aren't any places near me to obtain service. But I wanted to THANK YOU for a great review and helping me to make what I think was a good choice.

Hi Vanessa, Thank you so much for taking the time to show us the DX5. I do have a couple of machines, and was thinking about buying the DX5. But now I'm a little confused and don't know which one to buy. The ones I have is the futura quantum 400xl, the simplicity sb3129. Now I don't know if I should go for the DX5 or the DX7. My thought was to get rid of the two and get the Juki. Which one would you recommend? (I also own a Juki TL2010Q and a brother embroidery machine).

Would you purchase a Juki over a Bernina?
@TheCraftyGemini5 жыл бұрын
My honest opinion is absolutely, yes! I have a friend who has a top of the line Bernina who just bought a Juki (a higher model than this one featured here) and is a total convert! She is selling her Berninas. In my opinion, the stitch quality is better and you get more bells & whistles for a fraction of the cost.

@semco720574 жыл бұрын
That Juki sewing machine looks great and you must love it so much and what it can do. I became familiar with the Juki brand while working for the prison system here in Arkansas and the inmates who used it and the Singer machine loved it. The machine they had was the industrial model and they was only interested in sewing one type of stitch to take care of the clothing used by inmates. The Singer was an older model and did one thing also and I tried them both and got interested in sewing while working there. I thank you for sharing your experience on this Juki and wish you many years of great service with the ones you have.

I have known for months now that Juki is going to be my next machine. I haven't decided a out the model yet....F or DX series??? I have bernette now and I am not very happy with it. It doesn't have a nice stitch (my BAGAT machine 40 years old has a better stitch). Its fabric feeder is not good. It doesn't go if you start stitching, if it is light material it just gathers is in the feed box hole, and if it is havier material it stays in place and makes that thread bump on the wrong side; also, it will not pass over thicker parts, like seems or different thickness of materials....so, JUKI, here I come!!!
@maureennevers90396 жыл бұрын
So nice to hear you say you get no compensation from Juki. Some times reviewers say they are not affiliated with the company but the item being reviewed was sent to them for free. If they want more free things from them or other companies that is a factor in the review (even if they think/try not). I don’t know if I would turn away free products, but I do wish people were more aware of the hidden influence that can have. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Hint. Scant 1/4 by moving needle position to the right. Test how many needle movements by fabric strips and measurements. Then note and always move needle position and use the edge of pressure foot. Gives more stability for straight seams, especiakky for beginners.

I have 2 Juki sewing machines and a Juki Air threading serger so as you can tell I am already smitten! Thank you for a great review of this machine it looks great particularly with the addition of the presser foot up or down button I think. I have that feature on my brother embroidery machine and love it. I however have trouble with both of my Juki machines in that they auto cut the thread without me touching the button or hitting the heel of the pedal. I even have the manual lock on the pedal but it still suddenly cuts the thread which is getting annoying. Has this ever happened to you?

Hello Vanessa, I am currently checking the JUKI HZL DX and series and the PFAFF ambition 620. My main expectations include: to be quiet, automatic thread cutter, alphabet, IDT, and to sew all type of fabrics. Th one thing I have found as main difference between the 2 is the quality of the buttonhole. Did you had the chance to test the pfaff ambition 620? Also come to know that JUKI HZL DX series are likely to sew with industrial power. I am a hobby sewer wanting to upgrade to a high quality strong sewing machine. I wish I knew which lasts longer and requires less service.

The Juki is so much more expensive because it has a lot of features that the Singer Quantum 9960 does not have, such as adjustable presser foot pressure, all the computerised options to program the pedal etc, presser foot hover function, knee lift. So really the equation is whether you have a $1200 budget and want computerised everything, or pay $300 and you get a basic type of heavy duty computerised but much less adjustability.

@TangoKiloAlpha544 жыл бұрын
Only purchase quality new or refurbished sewing machines from authorized dealers. Especially high end $$$ ones because if you purchase one from, amazon, eBay, Craigslist, unauthorized sellers, you may find your warranty to be void! And also, they won’t last very long. So glad I purchased my Babylock from a local dealer that special ordered one for me, and didn’t buy one online or from a big box store, craft stores.

I love your video! 1 question what was the reason for going with this machine? I have seen that you have Eversew machines in your classroom and they have come out with the new Sparrow 30 with all the bells and whistles ?
@TheCraftyGemini6 жыл бұрын
A $400 Sparrow 30 can’t compare to this machine. I use the Ever Sewn machines for kids and beginners. The Sparrow 30 only has the thread cutter in common with the DX5... but no other upscale features like some that I mentioned in the review- knee lift, auto presser foot lift, thread cutting from foot pedal, customizing foot pedal control, auto bobbin wonder, it has a lot slower max speed length of only 850 stitches per minute, less than 6.5” throat space, etc.

Vanessa, for a beginner-mid level sewer is this a good machine?
@hweiyilee65595 жыл бұрын
This machine is really feature-rich and I've seen beginners on Pattern Review investing in this and the more expensive Juki DX-2000 QVP, so it's great if you have the budget. But if you are more budget-constrained you can try the F-300 which still has some of the programmable features, the buttonhole plate, and adjustable foot pressure. The F300 is more upgradable than the Brother NQ-575 I bought at a similar price point because you can add a knee lift, unlike my machine where the hole for the knee lift is closed up. At an even more budget-friendly level you can go for a Janome computerised machine online at Amazon in the $200-ish price range, or look for a refurbished Brother PC-420 that can go as low as $350-ish, or get the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960.
