The idea about going through a hole in the top plate (with 4 holes) and then back over and down into another hole is to add tension along the way, the more you do the more tension you will have. That is why they show that in the manual. But I do agree the manuals need improvements, especially separating the languages into several manuals.

AT 4:39 you skipped threading thru the chrome rectangle slot ..after that you go to the needle guide then thru the needle..
