I have had my MO-103 since 1980. I have used it to serge the raw edges of all my fabric for 43 years. I used it today!! I wish it had an odometer to tell me how many million yards it has served!

50 years! Oh wow, I know you’ve seen a lot of changes in sewing machines, and not many of them good. That’s why you speak so highly of older, basic machines. I agree with you, I avoid anything that’s computerized if I can. Someday I will venture into sergers, I would love to get a older basic one if I could get the manual, that I would definitely need! Anyway, great video.

Thanks. Those old sergers and machines are out there. You just have to search diligently and figure out who’s closet or attic they’re in before granny goes to assisted living. The kids will set them on the curb, or hopefully donate them to Goodwill or some other charity.👍😎

I have read all the comments and finally saw one where you said you do not have a video on threading the Juki MO-103. I bought mine in 1982 and I love it. I also bought the Brother 1034D, which has the differential. I use the Juki most of the time. Today, the thread broke and I have been trying to rethread it for almost two hours. I am going crazy. I even have the plastic threading sheet (the big one). I'm going to try one more time and leave the threads hanging about an inch after I put it through the holes. I've gone through this song and dance many times and I finally succeed, but after many attempts to get it right. I think you should make a video on how to thread this machine. You would be a hero!! It is a great serger!! Update: Success FINALLY. Threading this machine is definitely a challenge and it takes a VERY patient person!!

@@lindalutich2873 the threading process with sergers, is why most people have a serger in the closet that they bought and never used. People pay me to come to their locations and thread their sergers. They aren’t easy to thread. I will NEVER sell a serger to someone, unless they are asking for one that’s identical to the one they have, and they just want another one just like it. They all thread differently. If you have the threading diagram, you are light years ahead of those who don’t. It’s a step by step process with no shortcuts. I wish I could help you more, but every machine that I make a video about, is merely passing through my possession long enough for me to service or repair them, then make a quick video. If I get another like yours soon, I’ll make a threading video for you.

@@randyyoursewingmachineman9954 Why not make photo copies of the threading diagram for every serger that you service? Then sell them.
@randyyoursewingmachineman9954
@randyyoursewingmachineman9954 2 ай бұрын
@ all those diagrams are available online for free. Unfortunately, every serger that I’m asked to “repair “ is simply misthreaded by the person who actually has the threading diagram in their hands. Sergers are hard to thread correctly. Having the diagram, and the video, and the guy (me) standing next to the operator, doesn’t always make it any easier. Go ahead and try that business model. Most sergers are clones of other sergers. There aren’t really that many variations in the threading process. A person who can thread any one serger without hesitation or doubt, can thread them all. It’s a process.

As I tell everyone, it’s one of the big three: 1) needle 2) thread 3) threading Make sure the needle is brand new and not bent or blunt. Make sure it’s the correct needle because sergers use any one of several needles. Install it properly. Flat side to the back. Don’t use a heavy thread and make sure it’s in a cone. Threading: it’s absolutely threaded incorrectly. I know because you said you threaded it several times. That means you are hoping that one procedure was correct. You have to know how to thread your serger like you know how to tie your shoe, one and done. Every serger I service is misthreaded. Every serger I service is misthreaded To infinity. Sergers are hard to thread correctly. I have several videos on correct threading. They may be hard to find, but they’re there. It’s critical that it’s correct. Good luck. 👍🏼 😎

@randyyoursewingmachineman9954

Belts have numbers that are relative to their length. If your belt is 15 inches long, it’s a 1500. If it’s 15 1/4 inches long, it’s a 1525. If it’s 15 1/2 inches long, it’s a 1550. If it’s 15 3/4 inches long, it’s a 1575. If it’s 16 inches long, it’s a 1600. Etc. Measure yours and order the closest size to that length. There’s some adjustment on the motor bracket, so just get as close as you can. Don’t tighten the belt too tight. Have 1/4 inch flex at best. 😎👍

@@KES2022 you’ll be fine if you just make sure to put a drop of oil on the movements occasionally. They were over engineered for daily heavy sewing that you may not do to that extent. A serger is designed to finished two layers and then the seam is sewn with a regular machine. It’s a two step operation. If you try to sew too thick of a seam, it will break the serger. That’s what causes almost all serger issues. Two layers of garment material is their limit.

@@Daughterofkaos having it threaded properly is most important. Almost every serger that I get, where the customer states “the tension is off”, is simply threaded incorrectly. Then, if it’s not making a pretty decent stitch, it’s threaded incorrectly.👍😎

@@Daughterofkaos if you shine a light down into that hole, you should see what looks like a compressed fabric oiling wick reservoir.
