Firefly Serenity Movie Reaction | First Time Watching
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hey guys! Thank you so much for being here and for the final conclusion of our Firefly journey!
#firefly #tvreaction #fireflyreaction
In this continuation of the television series "Firefly," a group of rebels travels the outskirts of space aboard their ship, Serenity, outside the reach of the Alliance, a sinister regime that controls most of the universe. After the crew takes in Simon (Sean Maher) and his psychic sister, River (Summer Glau), whom he has just rescued from Alliance forces, they find themselves being pursued by the Operative (Chiwetel Ejiofor), an Alliance agent who will stop at nothing to find them.
Thank you so much for watching! I hope you enjoyed the video 💜

The characters exist to advance the story. This was the known end of the line for Firefly so the film had more freedom to tell the story than a series that needs consistency from episode to episode. Book’s death motivated Mal to fight rather than hide as he would usually do, and Wash’s death left the rest of the crew’s survival in more doubt to ramp up the drama in the final act.
@TheWizardsTales
@TheWizardsTales Жыл бұрын
@@rustygunner8282 very true, but Wash was a painful one to have to let go, because of the relationship with Zoe and the fact that he died leaving her childless. But... I can't conceive of any of the other characters I would choose to have let go in his place. My least favorite character is Simon and I still would have mourned his loss for River and Kaylee's sakes.
@CFWhitman

@@rustygunner8282 Another movie was supposed to happen when this one was made, but the studio decided that this movie didn't do well enough to warrant funding the sequel Whedon had planned. Also, they had a schedule for the next movie that Tudyk and Glass were not available for, so there were some practical reasons when Whedon made this script. Of course, Whedon knew this when he wrote the script, so he made maximum use of what he could to add to the story knowing he couldn't use them for the next movie (Edit: He also knew there was a chance he wouldn't be able to make the next movie). I was never clear whether he had a third one planned to finish everything, or it was going to come to a "conclusion" in the second movie.

"I do, but I like to hear you say it" is probably one of my favorite lines in the whole series. It's very telling of River's connections to Mal. Not only here as in the bar on Beaumont. There was a distinct pause as River brought the gun around to face Mal. but even as early as in 'safe' when book is shot. I always felt that it was Mal's distress at books being shot that caused River to trip up while she was dancing

Thanks! I knew that you were going to cry. I was actually dreading this reaction because I don't like to see you cry, but I couldn't warn you. Anyway, I just go back and watch Wash playing with dragons or Book trying once again to explain ethics to Jayne, and I can smile again. I think the "whys" of this are real-world. Ron Glass passed away just two years after the making of this movie. He may have been retiring at this point. He'd had a great, long career. If you ever want a few great laughs, look Ron Glass up in the old 1970s Police comedy, Barney Miller. As for Wash, I've heard that Tudyk asked Whedon to kill off his character. Tudyk is so much fun to watch in everything he's done. Even when he played a hated character in the movie 42, he was fantastic! However, I think he left a piece of himself because I thought I saw Zoe holding her belly in one of the last scenes. Maybe???? Finally, even if Mal and Inara don't resolve their feelings, there can be no question that by the end of this they have accepted that they have feelings. Maybe that's half the battle! Then there's Kaylee's "nethers:... I really look forward to more great reactions from you!

He was one of my favourites and I never could pinpoint why. He has the most beautiful, calming nature. I can see he easily fit into his role as Shepherd... 💜 I definitely am going to pretend that Zoe had a little piece of Wash with her. That is 100% now fact and true and I won't hear anything otherwise 🤭 Thank you so much for being so kind throughout this series. I mentioned before that we see Jayne's character and his character developement through his actions. They don't spell it out or tell us, but show us, because Jayne is a man of actions, not words. Previously rather than telling Mal he respects him or cares about him, he made sure there was a suit ready for him if the time came he needed it. Here, after Jayne talks about what Book told him about doing something right, he slides the bottle to Simon. He doesn't need to say that he accepts him now, or that they're a part of the same crew. He shows it through that action. Then when the ship is going down, Jayne is tossed about, BECAUSE he made sure everyone else was strapped in before himself.

It’s a great metaphor, they could have left it there instead of seeing them rise above it and it still would resonate. The storm, their loss, it’s going to get worse as the reality sets in. But they and all of us with storms in life for whatever reason, “pass through them soon enough.”

When Joss Whedon got the go ahead to make the film he hoped that there would be more than one film made. He asked all the cast if they could do a second or third movie. Alan Tudyk and Ron Glass both had other commitments and couldn't do more than one movie. They had to die in the first (and only) movie.

And 44:04, it looked like you noticed River’s hand flexing on the grip of that weapon. I think, after that glance behind her, she knew that she could take them, and had the “how” of it worked out. This movie is miraculous in the way it manages to honor everything about the show, exceed it, break your heart but give you what you want in terms of emotional resonance and power. On a less emotional note, one small detail I always appreciate is the moment where the operative orders his soldier to stand down. He’s a terrible adversary, but once he’s lost he has no pettiness. The mission is over and he doesn’t hurt the crew without reason. It makes him such an interesting villain.

I cry every time. I loved this series/movie so much. I t was a joy to experience it all again with you.

Heartbreaking every time. The one moment - you know which - is the only time I've experienced a room of 150 people become simultaneously broken. Sobbing for a long time, indeed. And we had waited for two years plus. In time I came to terms with Firefly/Serenity coming to an end. A small part of me is grateful that (mostly) we got 13 episodes and a movie of near perfection that was never able to dip in quality or take wrong turns. A bigger part of me wishes it were still on the air now. But you are a true Browncoat. It never leaves you. Welcome to the family.

Great reaction. The loss of Book was to help Mal regain belief in something. The loss of Wash was to show how dangerous the mission was. It was also said that Alan and Ron weren't unable to commit to additional movies if possible. The Miranda story line was supposed to be at the end of season 2 or cliffhanger. There are comic book/graphic novels approved by Josh to continue the story. Titan books have put out books. The time frame of the books are end of the series and the movie. I want to thank you for reacting to this series and movies. It was fun

This movie is so bittersweet. Wins and losses, cheers and tears. It has it all. Two scenes in this show get me. On Maranda when River is carrying on, Jayne didn't complain about River, but agreed with and defended what she said. Second at the end when Mal is talking to Zoie. He is asking her how she is doing, but masking it by asking about the ship. Zoe's reply tells him how she is doing but acting like she is talking about Serenity too. That was some awesome writing there. This movie still gets me. On a side note. Rumor is Disney is in works to reboot the series. I don't know how you would feel about that, but me, I doubt anyone can find the sweet spot of cast writers and production they accomplished again. It's like lightning in a bottle.

Profound art has the ability to affect us profoundly, Jules. My friends, and I were upset with the deaths in the film when we walked out of the theatre, but I honestly didn’t think it would hit you so hard, and I’m sorry that it was at times hard to continue watching for you. When I received word of my Dad’s death a few years ago, I found that I wasn’t crying, but then I heard some of his music(He wrote/published recorded songs, and played several musical instruments), and it was hard to stop crying afterwards.🥺Art that evokes an emotional response is some of the best. Thank you, Jules for watching Firefly, and Serenity with us! 😸🔥🚀🌌🌿☮️ Respectfully- Jameson

Thanks for doing this. I have actually sat down and rewatched Firefly the series in the last week and just finished serenity today. I remember how intense my reaction was the first time I saw this movie in a theater. All things considered it gave me some kind of closure. Hard to believe how short this series was allowed to be and still can't believe some TV executive at Fox or elsewhere wouldn't have looked at this and said jeez we need maybe four more full seasons of this, and then a movie. Would have been a lot more time for all these characters who definitely deserved more. Still this is what we have and its great and I guess appreciate it for what it is.

As far as a last hurrah and a meaningful closing of something short but wonderful, I'd say this movie stood the test of time. Due to constraints it couldn't wrap up everything, and it had more than one gut-punches, but it still is a fitting ending down to the last second and last line. I've known all along this was going to be a heart rending experience for you. Having seen the emotional reaction you've had enough earlier episodes I was almost hesitant to watch this one. A small bit of good news though. If you can find it, Nathan Fillion and Allen Tudek stared in a short lived internet series called "Con-men", it helps to see them together again. Also if you haven't seen the series "Castle" staring Nathan Fillion, you'd probable enjoy it alot. It shows that there is alot of Mal in Fillion, In as much as he never seems to forget his crew. Most if not all of the "Firefly" cast turn up in cameos at one point or another. Plus the show is packed with "Firefly" Easter eggs.

Ah man, I think I forgot to leave a message on you last Firefly episode to steel yourself and have tissues for the movie… it was something else to see this in a theatre back in the day, being in a room with fellow browncoats, and feeling the same excitement and sadness, so many emotions that day. Edit: as to your pause to reflect on the quality, indeed. It’s funny you chose that moment to reflect on it looking so impressive, which is thx to them getting a much ledger budget than they ever had on the show, and the moment you choose I’d right after Mal talking about his crew needing to be paid… quite nice timing. There’s great symbolism that Mal war injury with the shrapnel that saves his life in the end from not being paralysed. It’s like his side of things, his fighting against the war saves him. But yeah, losing who we did hurts. First Book, then Wash… that line of his has been immortalised by Browncoat’s ever since, it’s such a crazy moment. In the audience I remember the feeling of communism excitement of pulling off crashing and burning, is saying the lines along with him I’m our head or mouthing them in our seat and then… yeah. Sudden abrupt death. I’m glad they gave him a hero’s death, no matter how much it hurts.

Love your reaction! The reason for that moment that broke your heart in this movie is that Joss wanted to make sure we all knew that nobody was safe, so that we would feel the characters were in real serious danger. I was in a cinema for an early fan-filled viewing of the movie - everyone laughing at his final line and then the shocked, horrified silence that followed. So much love and grief in one room. It was magical.

Hi Jules.Thank you for going on this incredible journey with us, your deep and genuine reactions are beautiful, compelling and clearly heartfelt 🙏 On this subject of Wash , the reason why he died was apparently due to the fact that Alan Tudyk was unable to commit to playing Wash in the future. As for Book, I think the actor was pretty much retiring and going to live in a Buddhist community in California. I just love Firefly, so much heart and I just love the characters! I feel that it will come back, I have heard there has been some recent talk about bringing the show back. I must say that it's really impressive to be able to make a feature film just after the show was cancelled, I think that is unique in TV/film history. The journey isn't over and I always love rewatching the series and the film as there is so much subtlety, wonderful acting and dialogue it never gets boring, trust me I have rewatched many many times and always found it rewarding, it's just so good, so very good 'shiny'!

I think remember the behind the scenes, how they built a nearly full size ship for the interiors and such, which is why there's so much more detail and space involved. And there was also some more changes to the interiors due to the bigger budget and how they constructed the set for the flow of the shots during the movie. Which I always thought was so cool.

"What was that?!" An amazing story full of great folks and all the emotions. On screen and sitting in front of it! And a damn fine speech by Mal at the end as they take off. Notice how he talks directly to the camera? Not just to River, but to you? To all of us? A stunning example of how things should be done even or especially (!) when everything is against you. The film crew managed to do it and made the characters live and die through it in the story. And we managed to get through it too. And Serenity will be with us forever. That's what that w.... IS!

I knew, once you saw the pilot, that we would be here, at this point in time, together, for the end of a great story. Not a complete story, but great, nonetheless. Joy in sadness; sadness amongst the joy.🥲 And that exemplifies my two personal favorite bits, from this movie... River Tam: I swallowed a bug! Wash: I am a leaf on the wind; Watch how I soar. Take some comfort in the fact that you have experienced a great series, arguably the best series ever. And you will know, for certain, it is that, once you view its entirety again, and again. Each time having the same reactions. The sad, will always be sad, and the joy will always bring laughter. Thank you for sharing your journey. Excellently presented, as always. Your care for the show shone throughout the videos. Suffice it to say. I will gladly watch this reaction, as often as I re-watch the entire series. Thank you for the great reaction! More sad news. "Serenity" was intended to be the first movie of a trilogy - but only if there were more Box Office Sales. Back then there just weren't enough Browncoats buying theater tickets. Shepherd Book & Wash died because both actors already had other pending contracts and would not have been able to film Serenity 2 or 3 (had the Box Office sales supported a trilogy). We do have more Firefly in Comic Books & Novels. These include the important backstories of Shepherd Book, Inara, and other unanswered questions.

One of the most underrated parts of this movie is the Operative going to talk to Mal after everything is over. What Mal showed him took the most important thing he had: his faith. He had faith in the mission of the Alliance. Now, he's wondering how to go on without it. So he talks to the only man he knows who knows what that's like. I like to think the went a similar route to Shepherd Book after this.
