Here's my big problem with Julia. She has a powerhouse voice. That's a given. But that's not what sells records these days. Who is the music industry today? Taylor, Miley, Billie, Lana, etc. These ladies are ruling the music industry with GOOD vocals, but AMAZING artistry. Powerhouse vocalists are not getting record deals these days, in the 90s--all day but not today. Stop picking diva songs to sing. We know you CAN sing them. She is trying to go toe to toe with these divas instead of creating her own sound to the music. That's what artistry is. And I don't mean changing a run here and there or belting a different part of the song like she's been doing. She needs to pick a song with less vocal gymnastics and add her color to it.

I disagree. Whitney Houston’s voice and hers are the same! Whitney sold a lot of songs. Julia’s audition was a song From Aretha Franklin. She sold a lot of songs. And quite the icon. Because she’s not tall like Taylor Swift and different doesn’t mean she can’t sell songs.

And if you're saying they sound the same because they can do the same runs, that also proves my point. And Your second sentence just proved my point. When these icons got their record deals, like Whitney and Aretha, do you know why they got record deals? Because NOBODY had the voice they did. They didn't sound like ANYONE else. The music industry is not looking for powerhouse vocals anymore because you don't need them to sell records these days. Back in the day, you had to have stellar vocals to get a record deal, these days no. Artistry wins. And if you're trying to sound like another artist, you won't be successful. Ask anyone in the music industry.

Julia's performance on American Idol was disappointing. The constant pitch problems made it hard to listen to. It's important for contestants to deliver consistently strong performances, and unfortunately, Julia fell short this time. She needs to work on her vocal control before stepping back onto the stage.

Define her range and style, and not just shoot for the moon …cuz she is falling flat (pun intended). The majority of the song went well, but on that high sustained note, it was rough. The faces of the three judges revealed how painful it was to listen to. Camera man knew.
