having worked professionally as an actor, most actors have had acting training,in an acting school. I know Garner did. That said, not every actor can do that on the spot on a talk show. If it was me, I'd shy away from doing a real character I did, and then mimicking that on a talk show. Streep isn't that good on the spot in real life. She was on Ellen Degeneres show once. Ellen was doing a game where meryl picked from a hat a country, then do the accent, and Ellen had to guess. And all accents from characters she's done. She wasn't that good, and felt uncomfortable doing it. I've done accents, but can't just jump into it. All actors are different. Streep was once asked is there any one role more difficult than the other. She said it's all about working on it, so no. But what's difficult is talking in front of the public , as herself. I''m the same way. But then there are the Julia Garner's, Robin Williams, Tracy Ullman's....who can on the spot jump from one character to another
