He's a very attractive man, odd, angular and slightly gothic, plays with toy cars and wears a turtle shell, and Northern, and makes amazing music. All making him eminently shaggable.

He's originally from Warwickshire I thought, but then his family moved to the NW.

I can only assume Jonathan had no idea who he was interviewing. It reminds me of Marshall Mathers & Stephen Colbert, but unstaged

Cope is still watchable and listenable. Ross is just dated.

Awww, I feel really sorry for Julian in this interview, I mean, having to play along with all this nonsense. The interviewer, although not a complete arse, sets it up as a kind of "let's all have a laugh at this weirdo" thing, and although Julian readily admits that he can be a bit of a plonker at times, he's a really great musician but he has no choice here but to go along with it and send himself up. It's always the way when you're a bit on the outskirts of the mainstream. What a crappy business it is to be in popular music. Never mind, Jules's music stands up for itself and 'Fried' is a very beautiful album, in fact it's so 'together' that I can only surmise that JC deliberately did the sleeve art in such a way as to detract the laughing herd away from it. Like, "here's the record sleeve - get past that, if you have a brain, and if you don't then I don't want you to buy it anyway".

You're right about the last bit, but Julian enjoyed this interview; he said so in his autobiography "Repossessed". You should check out his interview at the Earls Court Toy Fair in 1991 (on KZbin) where he talks about his collection of Barbie dolls.

It seemed to me that Ross genuinely liked him and they got along pretty well, considering how high Cope seems to be. When Cope put his feet on Ross’s desk, Woss pwayed wight awong.

His Label must have had some deal/Influence at MTV as a lot of his singles got a lot of airplay on there when I was younger and he wasn’t anywhere near as ‘big’ as the other artists getting a much airplay
