This is the essence of a great cover. If I had no idea who sang it I’d still be amazed by it. He and the other musicians stick to the songs basics and don’t deconstruct it, yet make the song their own, and if one knows anything about Julian’s journeys over the years, his refrain “for a minute there I lost myself” is incredibly powerful and moving.
