How Julian can be so calm with himself when most of the questions people ask him are not about him, but of his errant father, or the other Beatles, is astonishing. He somehow found a way to navigate his own life, be his own self, and just 'let the rest go'. Absolutely amazing. If I ever met him I would love to just talk to him about him, and make a point to not bring his father or any Beatles into the conversation whatsoever. He is interesting enough.

when you think about it, they really were a flash in the pan. lasting only seven years and yet they still attract so much admiration (even infatuation). sure, they had some good songs. I bought a few of their albums when i was a kid. but.... i don't understand the obsession.... but then i don't understand the elvis hysteria either. and i agree with you, how utterly out of touch these people are to interview someone who was ...basically abandoned by his father... just to ask these dumb questions about a tiny fraction of his life, that he was not really even part of. I know he tried to have his own musical career but he could never escape that shadow. He may have been better off to simply change his name.

It’s about him being a down to earth guy who is comfortable in his own skin. He knows why people want to speak with him and he gets it. @@tonypalombinijr2946 Odd thing about women I never understood until fairly recently. If they feel like they're living in your shadow or they are eclipsed by your talent or intellect or any other attribute they will not stay around very long. I was dating a beautiful blonde & she out of the blue just upped & said 'I'm always going to be in your shadow' which astonished me because we couldn't go to dinner without 10 people telling her how attractive she was. Yet, she felt that way about our relationship. It was very bizarre to me. I suppose thats just one reason I find women to be quite annoying.

I have a lot of respect for Julian. He is the vivid image, his voice specially, of his father, and it must have been soooo f***ng hard to have a life listening to people praising his father, who as a musician made history, but as a dad he did not (and to a certain degree, considering the circumstances, at the beginning he was forced to be that way). But then, later on, he did not want to change things. And Julian, he managed not only to survive, but also to, at least now, keep his sanity. I don't know what he is doing with his life now, but I hope he has found peace and happiness.

John was so famous that everyone still wants to see and interview the son to get a little info about the father. Has to be a crazy experience that probably feels a little claustrophobic. You would think Bill would get this but it doesn’t seem like he does. Julian has probably memorized the way people respond to him over the years. And it’s probably difficult to always remain so positive about everything regardless of the life he was given because of the fame of his dad. It always feels like the interviewers, (not just Bill) just want to get beyond Julian and get to John. That has to be frustrating.

Assuming Paul allowed it, it would make a great documentary of sorts. Instead of Bill Maher and Julian, how about just watching Paul and Julian talking about John for 2 or 3 hours, interspersed with photos and clips. I bet, if Paul had the time, he would agree to do it.

In the mid 1970's my best friend Sally and her brother were in the Arrivals lounge of Heathrow or Gatwick , waiting to greet their Mum from a flight from Canada. Low and behold Paul McCartney was one of the passengers on her Mum's flight. She rushed to her brother, in disbelief ( she was around 14 years old). Paul leaned over as he walked past and said quietly to her "Yeh, and I'm looking at YOU too!" Was I jealous!!!

The sad thing for Julian is that he was always an outsider to his dad John to Yoko, but at least he got closer together with Sean his half brother. Paul was there to watch Julian from the background while raising his family and kids. Sadly Julian never married after being that "outsider" for many years has made it hard for anyone to get close to him romantically.

John Lennon was not a nice person. And he was a terrible father to Julian. Not only did he abandon him and his mother, giving them the absolute bare minimum to live on that British law allowed, but he refused to be part of his life in any way. McCartney was much more of a father to him (hence "uncle Paul"). And to rub salt in the wound Lennon absolutely doted on him and Yoko's son Sean.
