I recently moved to NJ, right near NYC, and try and get out for a hike once a week. The bulk has been done in the Hudson Highlands, with one up in the Catskills. While the Hudson Highlands barely go above 1,500’, it’s amazing how absolutely rocky and rugged the mountains are! I’ve yet to do any hiking in New Jersey, just yet, though I’m contemplating doing the NJ and NY sections on the AT (I hiked it from Georgia to Virginia back in the day). If all goes as planned, I’ll also be doing the Devils Path up in the Catskills before summer weather is gone!

Time square on that board is not the one in Manhattan, but the one where 3 trails are crossing not far from there in Harriman state park. Happy trails!

Hey Juliana, fun seeing you get to Harriman. I live on Long Island and do a bunch of hikes and backpack trips on the AT in Harriman, Bear Mountain area. Did you grow up in the area? Did you do much hiking in that area when you were younger? I am always partial to the view of NYC from West Mountain Shelter. Good luck on the rest of your hike. If you have never done Vermont and the White Mountains before, you will love them - very special hiking in the East.

My Son and I just hiked this section a few weeks ago.... Good times. High point State park to Greenwood lake NY. Shout out to the Village Buzz Cafe.

Did you hit your 22.5 miles. One of the best place t watch fireworks. You can see a ton of towns. 👍👍
