Just saw them in a club venue the other night and it was kinda weird. They were charging $75 for meet and greets at a club show that wasn’t even sold out which I thought was pretty lame. Travis’ voice was pretty shot. There was a lot of backing tracks, vocals, pianos, synths, guitars. They were headlining but only played ten songs, two of which were covers. It was fun in a sing a long nostalgia kinda way but I also saw Boys Like girls a week before in a theater sized venue that was practically sold out, met them for free, they played 30 songs and sounded amazing, Martin sang his ass off. Really made WTK look like they weren’t even trying by comparison haha

Love your content man, youre such a nice dude. Chill, honest, casual and informative. Been watching almost every video since your first uploads. Id love to hear your thoughts and takes on some other bands from the warped tour era adjacent scenes and genres which I also listened in my teens. Some that come to mind: I set my friends on fire, From first to last, Scary kids scaring kids, Confide, We came as romans, Broadway, Circa survive, Emery, Dr. Acula and We butter the bread with butter. thx for reading.

I love We The Kings, I brought their first album when it came out, I had to special order ‘Smile Kid’ when it came out. I’ve steadily followed them from there, haven’t been super invested but loved ‘Sad Song’, mainly the ‘Stripped’ version. Their remade self titled album was a lovely hit of nostalgia. I saw them back in 2009 with Hey Monday and it’s one of my favourite gigs. I saw them again at slam dunk back in 2017 and it was very nostalgic although they did play ‘Check Yes Juliet’ twice which was… odd. For me, they love doing what they do so more power to them.

I was 13 when Somewhere, Somehow came out, and VERY aware of Sad Song because it popped up on my Pandora all the time. I remember a few of my classmates really liking the song as well. I would also watch the shaytards vlogs at the time, and Shay and Charles Trippy were good friends. Shay would promote We The Kings, particularly the song Just Keep Breathing, which I know I downloaded on iTunes bc of Shay’s influence. It was the vlog outro song for a while

We the Kings needs to either name their next album starting with something other than S or literally just name it S 😂

I saw these guys live a few months ago at a festival and despite having 6 albums they played Check Yes Juliet twice, a cover song, a random new song and one other song from their most popular album. It was bizarre

I think Charles Trippy's old band played a show with we the kings a long ass time ago and that's how they first got acquainted. Definitely a good move if they were tryna keep that demographic though

I clocked out after Smile Kid, loved the first 2 albums, but couldn't bother after that. I remember watching so many interviews with them and Travis making the joke he wanted to virtually make out with us, at first it was funny but he made the same joke over and over and it became cringe. He also mentioned wanting to become a better songwriter than Paul McCartney and I remember thinking: dude, you really have no clue about your position and the fact you write the same song over and over😂 Also, I saw them live back in 2012? playing in Eindhoven in the Netherlands and he said 'whatsup Amsterdam' (which is a different city and honestly a bit of an ignorant American kind of thing to say haha) which was dumb but loved the show otherwise. But for me when Say you like me came out, it became clear they weren't the band I thought I knew and Travis's instagram proves that these days😂

I saw them at Sad Summer in Atlanta and they were ok! They filmed a video for their new song Alien that I’m waiting to be released. It was kinda weird. They threw blow up aliens in the crowd and Travis told us not to let them fall and to keep them crowd surfing. It was also weird because you could hear the back track of vocals through the whole song. His voice wasn’t the best that day so maybe that was why, but it was also only during that song. So maybe it was because of the video they were filming. I’m definitely in the same boat with their other releases. I heard they had albums come out after the self titled but I never listened to them. I was kinda over them after their first album came out. Honestly, their lyrics are just a bit too cringe for my 32 year old self haha

I have followed We the Kings on the entire weird journey and maybe I can clear up some things for you lol 2011: Sunshine state of mind and the single “Say you like me” was big and all over the radio- the fans were teenage girls. It was already after when they were “cool” to the warped your crowd - 2012 they were dropped by S Curve following the party fun love and radio ep which was awful. They crowd funded Somewhere Somehow and successfully funded it very quickly. It peaked high on iTunes first week but quickly fell off. Critics made fun of “I like it” for “copying” fob’s light em up. But both were produced by Butch Walker which contributed. - strange love was received better by critics in 2015 but the fans didn’t care for it- only fans left were the diehards which were teen girls and yes Charles trippy helped their popularity too. - six bombed and although the emo revival was happening already we the kings were one of the last bands to be re embraced. They re signed with S curve and released a greatest hits as well but it was short lived as they are no longer on S curve. - after 2020 they have been embraced for their older stuff again and for years after the pandemic they rode that wave and are now essentially a legacy band retreading the first album glory. Their fan base from 2011-2018 was mostly pop girls. Now more elder emo have re assessed the first album glory - sad song blew up on the app tik tok which is why it has so many listens on Spotify. Most fans of the song have no idea what album it came from Hope this helps

Unfortunately, Charles now only gets a couple thousand views per video now. He was part of the “in crowd” back then.

I have heard of sad song! Back in 2015 I wondered to myself "what the hell hapend to we the kings?" Looked em up and was as shocked as you to find they put out 3 or 4 albums and never knew they came out! That being said, everything after the self title only has one or two good songs and the rest, imo, aren't very great. I'm so sorry we the kings! 😢

man, those early 2010s albums just sound like every mediocre local pop band. all the bands that wanted to be maroon 5 or whatever but couldn't even be THAT innovative.
