To people in the comments saying you could make this cheaper homemade without buying canned sauce: Time is just as valuable a resource as money and for many families everybody is working and nobody has time 2 make homemade sauces. What I appreciate about this channel is that Julia is using ready-made ingredients that are cheap. Because that is what I have the energy to make. I do not have the energy to make my own enchilada sauce. If you want to make things from scratch there are plenty of channels that will tell you how to do that But as someone who is disabled and works full times and Has very little energy left to take care of myself.These are the kinds of recipes that are useful to me

Add some of the pasta water after the pasta is done to jars of sauce to get the last bit of sauce out. Let it cool a bit before shaking the jar and open slowly afterwards. The salt and starch in the pasta water is great and also helps thicken. Pasta water is also great to use when making homemade bread.

Thank you thank you thank you! I suffer from a chronic illness that makes it so difficult for me to cook. I'm always looking for quick and easy. My husband is happy about saving money and I'm happy that these meals are so quick and easy. We can't wait to try them.
@charliesgrumma538810 ай бұрын
A lot of illnesses and chronic inflammation we suffer comes from the food we eat. I suggest you look into "ketogenic diets" and seriously consider taking a 30 day challenge. This diet is a very low carb, low inflammation diet and if you stick to it for 30 days not only will you feel better but you will have better taste, better smell, and better eyesight. This is called an elimination diet because it eliminates foods that harm you. After a month you can start to slowly introduce you old non keto foods back into your diet until you find out which ones don't agree with you. I found out mine was potatoes. I loved them fried with onions, mashed, French fried, and baked. I never realized they caused me to have arthritis in my hands, skin tags, and skin rashes. All of that had cleared up eating a keto diet and came right back the first week of eating potatoes again. I don't eat potatoes now and all of above has gone away but I suffered with them for years not knowing potatoes were doing that to me. I'm not saying potatoes are giving you a problem but if you feel better on keto after 30 days and you eat something that your body doesn't like your body will let you know. By knowing what foods irritate your body can save you a lifetime of suffering if you can eliminate them from your diet.

You are an amazing young lady! You have made nutritous, delicious looking, flavorful budget minded meals that are more healthy than lots of these channels make! I just found your channel today and had to subscribe! You have made a great video that gives clear instructions and you have a very nice way of narrating it. I was a RN for almost 40yrs until a patient nearly killed me so I live on disability now and am on a tight budget, so your recipes are greatly appreciated! You really help people make better meals! Thanks so much!

We buy bags of dried white beans and cook them with chopped ham and water. I mash part of the beans to thicken the soup and it is delicious (We buy our ham from Costco because it is nitrate free and doesn't have chemical preservatives.) We also have started buying chicken drumsticks. They are absolutely delicious cooked in the air fryer. We marinate them in coconut aminos, honey and garlic!

mRNA has been added to pigs and sold to consumers as pork since 2018. As of 2023, our beef now has mRNA in it. All with no consumer warning food label. They figured out how to grow vegetables with mRNA injected into them but these are not yet approved for consumer consumption yet. Pork and Beef injected with mRNA are approved for human consumption You will eat your mRNA. mRNA may not be a chemical preservative - but it is worse.

One of my favorite casserole recipes - sooo good: 1 lb fully cooked bratwurst or Polish sausage, cut into ½-inch pieces 4 medium potatoes, cooked, peeled, and cubed 1 (16-oz) can cut green beans, drained 1 (10 ¾-oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (4 oz) ½ cup onion, chopped In a 3-quart casserole, stir together the sausage, potatoes, green beans, condensed cream of mushroom soup, cheese, and onion. Bake, covered, in a 350 oven about 45 minutes or till heated through.

Of course all the amounts are to taste, so to make it a little cheaper you can use less sausage and add an extra potato, or use more or less onion or cheese!

Pro tip: if you buy no salt beans (or make your beans at home without adding salt), no need to drain or rinse the beans when making chili, stew, or soup. Draining and rinsing canned beans washes 2/3 of the potassium down the kitchen sink. Depending on the recipe, you could measure the bean broth in a measuring cup and use it when cooking rice or sauteeing vegetables. Example: half bean broth and half water to make rice.

I noticed that you didn’t use mushrooms in many dishes but they are very good for you and can be used as a meat substitute in many dishes. Also, a problem with making meals affordable can be the cost of extra things like spices, oils, condiments. I realize you don’t use much of it but some spices can be as much as the whole meal you’re cooking. I know that many stores have a $1 spice area but I’ve tested the $1 dried spices compared to the ones costing $4-$7 and there is a big difference in flavor. Fresh spices are even better and I’ve found that growing my own in a little window box is very affordable. Spices like basil and rosemary do well. Another trick I found that helps cut costs is using Italian sausage in dishes. It usually has some many spices in it already that in helps flavor the dish without adding extra spices. I hope this helps 😊 Lentils are very underrated. I have a fantastic lentil bean & cheese dip recipe that is affordable and so good. If anyone is interested in the recipe let me know and I’ll add it to my comment.
