Of course pacey takes it.... Sadly verbal abuse is something he is very used to... And Dawson is sooo manipulating... He has every right to be hurt and maybe angry but the whole movie thing proves how he works... He puts joey on a situation where is impossible for her to tell him the truth, even when that was clearly what she was going to do, and then blames her for not doing it...

We had like 0.5 seconds of scream worthy content in the beginning. The “embarrassing gropefest” scene is quoted all the time and I choked on my salad watching it for the first time because something about that kissing scene just felt more intense than other ones in the show. We really were robbed of the paceyjoey sneaking around week that they were talking about 😭😭. Joey getting jealous of Pacey and Andie interacting is one of my guilty favorite moments. A lot of people say that she doesn’t want to be with Pacey as much as he wants to be with her but this was a scene that really proved that she wants him. It is so unhealthy the way Dawson makes Joey feel even when he’s not around. She puts him above her own feelings and needs and it’s so heartbreaking. She feels like she owes him something for not leaving her when everyone has but that type of codependent relationship is toxic for everyone involved. The talk Joey had with Jen about how this story has been told a million times and the woman is always the villain is definitely a look into the writer’s room for this season. They wrote Pacey and Joey’s love story in a very specific way so that the audience wouldn’t turn against them, especially Joey, and that’s a major reason Dawson was written kind of like a Disney villain towards the end of this season. I do think that Dawson’s reaction is in character for where he is at in his arc right now. He’s immature, self-centered, and unable to see past his own emotions. Apart from that, I also think that being upset about your best friend and your ex developing feelings for each other and then acting on them without telling you first is fair… But that doesn’t excuse how Dawson talks to both Pacey and Joey. He says that their relationship only has to do with sex, which he knows will hurt Joey because sex is a big deal for her (and it also slut-shames her because Joey can actually have sex with whoever she wants for whatever reason). He also implies that Pacey, his best friend, is some sex-crazed boy who isn’t capable of a deeper, romantic relationship and it breaks my heart. He makes jabs at Joey, saying that she’s being malicious, when he knows that she doesn’t have many people in her life that care and love her so she wouldn’t just risk losing someone because she wants to “get back at him”. The “what? Is it love?” line was definitely a turning point for all of them. Obviously Pacey and Joey know they have some deep feelings for each other but, in the moment when the question is posed to them in a way that is demanding an answer, they’re like “oh shit, it is.” And Dawson realized that yeah, it is love, and it’s so painful that he can’t take it and he storms off. Katie and James did such a good job in the scene in Dawson’s bedroom. Joey is trying so hard to get Dawson to understand her feelings and to see that she doesn’t want to hurt him but she still has her own wants that she needs to explore. Dawson being so horrifically manipulative and literally trying to rewrite the history between them, absolving himself of any wrongdoing. It was very well acted. And then the ending Pacey and Joey scene. What can I say? It was just gut wrenching. Like you can see that they want so badly to be together but they just don’t know how when everything has fallen apart the way it has. And Pacey telling Joey that she needs to leave first because he knows that he can’t leave her. The parallel to the first scene of the episode where they were both so hopeful. I will actually be sick. This is widely regarded as the best episode of Dawson’s Creek and I honestly can’t disagree. It’s just so well-acted on all fronts, the framing of the episode in different parts, following each character’s day, the culmination of what has been building for the last 20 episodes. It’s just so good.

Joshua & Katie dated in life during season 1. You can tell in the opening credits just how close they are. Also when they had their Reunion special, they dating very briefly before Josh met his now wife. So their kissing scenes were always the best in this show. They really care for each other.

You are soo right about Joey not oweing him anything!!! Also, what you said about Pacey putting Joey first because he loves her... I love how Pacey loves her so selflessly. You are so funny! This was my exact reaction when I first watched this episode for the first time haha. Over multiple watches I have come to understand Dawson more but Pacey and Joey are still OTP

Dawson acts like a psycopath during all of this, to be honest, planning every move to hurt them and to manipulate their feelings. He is not a bad person and before that and after it when it's not about their "triangle" he is just annoying, but during these episodes the guy showed how much of a mess he could be.

I hate the first love over all mindset it seems so childish to have and i guess that makes since for their time and their age but even after hsmtmts season one came out all u would here is "But nini is his first love." Even after the breakup and I think that is a weird mindset to have when most irl relationships don't even last like that and its no excuse to keep a toxic unhealthy relationship going. First love doesn't equal right love.

What is interesting in this episode is that all the characters react as if Joey had cheated on Dawson. Which technically isn't true (they haven't been dating for almost a year)... but which symbolically is true (Dawson and Joey continue, unconsciously, and as they have always done since the beginning of the series, to consider that the other is more important than any relationship, even a romantic relationship). I still think that the writers did a dirty job to create this relationship between Joey and Pacey (we feel the cruel absence of Kevin Williamson). Jen is an extra, Dawson is transformed into a villain, Andie no longer looks like she was, all to satisfy fans of Joey and Pacey. However, what we see there is still fun to watch because it shows that when things are not settled between two people, even when they are no longer together, everything always ends up resurfacing. For the record: Kevin Williamson, before stopping working on the series at the end of season 2, had considered this rapprochement between Joey and Pacey. But before that, he wanted to explore a romantic relationship between Dawson and Andie. I guess the idea came to him after Dawson's birthday episode, where he and Andie were drunk.

His ex/bff and his other bff dating is a little jarring to take in. Was he supposed to just be like "oh ok I'm happy for u guys"? Joey went off on Dawson for way less many times. All of us would be pissed if we were in Dawsons shoes at least at first
