Julie Andrews has a perfect ASMR voice.just her normal voice gives me tingles

Interesting piece of history. This was in the transitional period from the last days of the Hays Production Code when Jack Valenti first took helm as the chairman of the MPAA. By then, the studios were trying to buck the system, MGM going as far as creating a special division exempt from MPAA oversight to release their controversial film "Blow Up" from 1966. The "Suggested For Mature Audiences" tag was a compromise, but it became clear the Production Code was outdated and difficult to enforce, so the ratings system was created in 1968 and the rigid code of "do's and don'ts" was tossed.

So between when "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" was released in 1966, and the replacing of the Production Code with the GMRX rating system on November 1, 1968, in other words. I do have to say though, LOVE Julie Andrews ' voice and face! ♥️ So pearly clean!

According to a vintage episode of Saturday Night Live, rated Rx means no one under 17 admitted without a gay pharmacist. (This was in reaction to American Gigolo getting only an R rating when it came out, when it had many uses of illegal drugs and homosexuality).

This is an old video. Back then "M" was an MPAA rating, as there was no PG or PG-13.

In all fairness, this was the 70's and it was a drive in ad, so of course it would be cheesy (a LOT of things from that decade could be considered cheesy (if in an endearing way)).

This MPAA seal should've been used in the opening credits of Disney's 19th animated feature "The Jungle Book"!
@UnicornDreamsPastelSkies Жыл бұрын
My guess is that that movie's production began far enough before 1966-7 that they were too far into production to change the old seal to the next one in film. Remember, Walt himself was really involved in "The Jungle Book"s production up until his passing on 15 December 1966.

That's right, "self-regulation"...peppered with loads of peer pressure by the big studios.

I wonder what exact age that films labeled "Suggested for Mature Audiences" would've been permitted to. 13? 16? 17? 18?

Motion Picture Association Of America Was Created In 1967
@Tubewings3 жыл бұрын
Actually, 1967 was when the current logo debuted. The MPAA dates back to 1922 (when it was originally known as the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America; it became the MPAA in 1945).

It didn't last long because too many people got confused and thought it was a higher rating than R. It was replaced within a year or two with GP and then PG.

there was also TV-M but was changed to TV-MA to avoid getting sued by the ESRB. Which is odd because TV-G and TV-PG remained the same.
