I was a teenager when I saw this on TV. I told myself “I want to do that one day”. I’m 53, I completed 3 Ironmans. Thank you Julie♥️🙏🏼

The Ironman is so inspirational. The Ultimate Sporting Endurance event. This is how it became so famous. Talk about mental health empowerment. Well the bravery of these athlete is amazing. I am doing my first Ironman this year to honour this amazing sport and inspire myself to reach out to people in pain around the world and show them they can overcome their fears. Julie Moss ended up dating Mark Allen who won the event 6 times in Kona Hawaii.

The story was that she was drinking a sports drink called "Exceed" and eating food, but she was not taking water. It wound up taking the fluid out of her body and dehydrating her. She crossed the finish line like 10 pounds heavier than when she started.

Very heroic effort. Anybody could end up that exhausted after an Ironman but she really perservered. Easy to say with handshight but perhaps if she had stuck to walking she wouldn't have fallen as many times and perhaps won the race.

She should have been disqualified for all the help she got at the end, people physically picking her up multiple times. It wouldn't at all have been fair to her opponent if she had won like that.

The IM competition rules specify assistance as forward progress. An argument could be made that as she walked the forward steps herself, it was fine. 'Section 2.02: Unless otherwise pre-approved by the Event Director or Head Referee, no athlete shall intentionally cause the physical forward progress of another athlete on any part of the course during the Race. The penalty for this will be disqualification.'

Never seen this before because I was born in 1982 however I been Moss many times in the many races Ive done in high school. USMC boot camp crawling on all fours with drill instructors beating us with batons telling everyone how worthless bottom dwelling scum they are. Later the DOD Fire Academy when I was crawling on all fours pulling a fire hose for 6 hours straight till i couldnt even crawl anymore and was just skidding my lifeless body across the water soaked ground in full bunker gear in 108 F degrees with loss of oxygen and chaos all around me as my only friends to keep me going.
