At 13:55 have you soldered the two wires on point 5 (counting from left side) together or one at 4 and other at 5 ?
@PhuketMyMac8 ай бұрын
On the left part of the connector, each wire has its own seat on the connector. On the right side of it, 2 wires are attached together on the backlight rail. Though this method is outdated. I now prefer to merge 2 cables together by removing the insulation layer.

That video was well done. I tried to solder 3 jumper wires the other day on a joycon. It went back in my back burner pile. I need to get some more skillz and maybe better soldering iron before I try again. How will this repair not break like the original cable? I am curious to see the update video.

Well if you give enough slack to the wires, they will have less constraints and won't break, at least from my experience. Now there is a new method that I've pinned and that I would encourage you to use. It's actually easier to apply but still requires some good soldering skills.

Hello. I also have trouble on my Macbook Pro 2017, touch bar. A year ago, it starts flickering. I do not have enough money to fix it by LCD replacement. So, what I did was when the screen starts to flicker I just close it for a few hours and use it again. It takes only 15mins before flickering again, so, as I student its kinda hassle. Then, there was this online friend of mine who told me that I do not need to have an LCD Replacement, I just need to fix the flex. So, I want to ask you, if ever I fix the flex on my laptop is it a good move? Or do I really need to have an LCD replacement?

I ended up calling Apple support and told them that my late 2016 15" had the fluxgate problem. I mentioned the 13" backlight service program ( support.apple.com/13-inch-macbook-pro-display-backlight-service )and they told me it was only for the 13". I told them that I know a bunch of people who have the same problem with the 15" and that the only reason they were offering the service for the 13" was because people petitioned and sued over it. I also told them that I was ready to file a lawsuit. After asking to talk to a supervisor and telling her the story, she ended up giving me full service repair on my MacBook. I brought it in and they fixed every single thing wrong with my laptop (more than just the display). The total services would have costed me around $1700 if I paid for it myself. So now I basically have a brand new laptop. I think the whole lawyer thing scared her. I was actually told to do this by a Mac repair company near where I live. They specifically told me to call Apple support and tell them the problem, then ask to talk to a supervisor and mention lawyers and lawsuits. And it worked. I was so surprised.

First of all, thank you @Phuket My Mac if I had any skill I'd be trying to do this myself... Second, a question for you and for everyone else here suffering Apple's lack of accountability. I have a 2016, MBP 13 and it's screen goes COMPLETELY BLACK, when I open it beyond 45 degrees, and sometimes recovers at about 30 degrees (sometimes I have to close it all the way), which, in my eyes (ears?) sounds like it should apply for the replacement program. However when I've contacted support I get the following script: "We are only replacing your screen when it presents 'backlight issues/failure', that means, theater lights at the bottom OR no light, but WITH THE IMAGE STILL VISIBLE (they suggest shinning a flash light on the screen, and when doing do that, thry say I SHOULD SEE A VERY DIM IMAGE, which I quite frankly don't), otherwise, WE CANT HELP as this issue is not what is mentioned in the extended coverage program". So my question is, am I having a different issue here? It seems, at the very least, related. But at least here, in Mexico, this distinction is everything. Not sure if I'm experiencing 'more advanced' damage of the same issue (in which case they should own up to it) or a completely different, albeit, related issue that the company won't fix. Sorry for the wordy explanation. Any suggestions?

Hello, maybe (not) a stupid question here but wouldn't be more easier job, instead of wiring up every single trace and connect it directly to the board connector (which TBH it looks awful and unprofessional) just "bind" the 2 parts break of the flex by overlaying it? I mean scraping both 2 parts of the flex to expose the traces put one part over the other and merge it with something like low temperature soldering. In that way you would preserve the connector and the job looks cleaner to not mention the time saved for that microsoldering work that i think requires also some good skills...

Hey Joe, Not a stupid question. I heard of that repair method by connecting the 2 flex cables together and will attempt it in a week or so once I receive those new cables. Let’s see how it goes. Necip Mustafa Yalcin I am no genius. This idea was shared by the community of repair techs that I am part of. Also these wires are of course insulated which is why I am burning the protective layer with the iron at each end. Otherwise yes it would create a short circuit which we obviously don’t want.
@Waterholes4 жыл бұрын
Okey but i see an another Problem. If you open and close the display a few times, the copper Wires can break. Because the Wires arent elastic like other stuff. Do you know what i mean?

@@Waterholes First repair was done 6 months ago and I haven't heard of the customer yet so I guess it's lasting. I understand your point though.
@MrOgger1514 жыл бұрын
@@Waterholes I suppose you could substitute with a piece of ribbon cable. Maybe cut a piece from old ide drive cable. Not sure if that is stranded wire or not. Or use a piece of LCD from a windows laptop that is stranded.

My one (2017) just died after 3 months of replacing the keyboard. So I'm using it with a monitor. So sad. A portable machine is now has to be fixed in a desk
@PhuketMyMac3 жыл бұрын
You might find someone in your area willing to fix it for a decent price so could be worth it. These 2016/2017 models were very bad for many reasons, screen is one.
@Gakky2223 жыл бұрын
@@PhuketMyMac lucky me. I just brought to apple store and they agreed to replace it for free due to many reasons like the warranty expired not long ago (they might consider the fact that we just got out from a very long lockdown period) and the recent coincident keyboard replacement at Apple. After receiving the macbook back, I might just sell it to buy the new 14” series

Do you know anyone who does this in Canada? Also wouldn't it be easier to replace the whole cable set? I read its a $6 part
@PhuketMyMac3 жыл бұрын
@@urbunlegend Part is cheap yep but labor involved is the same, you need to merge those 2 cables, which is why we charge 200USD. You can't simply disconnect that cable. You have to tear down completely the screen to do so and way too many ways to damage it during the process.

Dude! Tell that to all the customers I’ve done that repair for. Still haven’t heard from them 😎 And since you’re just here to complain, you should have read at the 1st comment that there is a new repair method that we are now doing...
@old-wise-one44733 жыл бұрын
Sadly this won't last ;-{ Best to replace the cable a bit more work but a better repair! REWA offers the needed cables and are the longer ones to boot! Did two systems and they are holding up (one was where someone did you you did with the wires)
@PhuketMyMac3 жыл бұрын
Well I do not agree with you since I haven't heard from the customers I have done this wire job for. However the new cable method is definitely a more professional looking solution than the wires and it should hold longer in theory but it's maybe too early to tell?! I am still personally using a 2016 MBP 15" with this wire job after 1.5 year and no issue. I plan on redoing the job with the extended cable but I don't see the point yet if it hasn't failed. Also, I have pinned a comment showing the new method done by our friends in the UK so that is advertised as well.
