I was a senior in HS and a huge basketball junkie - both playing and watching. Saw this game and remembered Julius stealing the ball from Paul Silas and flying down court with Oscar Robertson and Archie Clark backpedaling trying to defend this young rookie thoroughbred with gazelle-like speed. No contest. Julius jukes then splits them and takes off from the foul line and throws down this massive tomahawk dunk that left everyone screaming, including the announcers, “did you see that” like our eyes had been deceived. They weren’t. IMHO, the greatest in-game dunk ever. Period. And one of the best...and classiest players of all time. The Good Doctor!

Right at the beginning of the interview portion at the end of the video i believe there is a Wilt Chamberlain sighting to our left. I love it that Dr. J got to play against Wilt. I looked up the rosters for that game and Wilt was there. So Wilt, who's professional career began in 1958 with the Harlem Globetrotters played against Dr. J who's career ended in 1987. Basketball changed so much during that time period. If anything it moved closer to a Globetrotters style because it allowed for more creativity and deception by the offensive player and made use of any unusual physical gifts he had.

Dr j biggest mistake was accepting all time looser sixers managment request to drop his fg attempts from 20+ to 15 and not chase being a 30 point scorer anymore like in the Aba...if he had not accepted he would have had a 29 points, 8.5 boards , 4 assists ,2 steals and 2 blocks per game..that statline would have been best or second best ever according how one sees it and the goat conversation apart from centers would have been limited to him and Mj period..but how would one see in the future..go check 1985 all star game announcer when he calls him,while presenting the players the most popular athlete of any sport and how he dominated the game offensively even at that age and defensively ,actually blocking back to back two rookie Mj attemts in a not yet in mycourt ,intimidating fashion..here Dr j is a rookie too , i dont see any player schooling him the way he did to mj!!

Where would Dr. J. fit into today's NBA? He's not a three point shooter. Imagine a 6'7" guy who doesn't shoot 3 point shots today. Where does he get drafted? And he played in a league where there was a 3 point shot. But the game then didn't overemphasize it. And fast breaks didn't end up in 3 point shots.

Please. I have seen clips of Dr. J shooting and scoring at the buzzer, at the 3pt.line, at half court, and out of bounds. He could do it all. His high basketball IQ made him aware of when he needed to shoot, lay it up, finger roll it, bank shot it and slam dunk it. Geez stop wondering about the Doctor. He could do it all in a moments notice!
@sambeezy007 Жыл бұрын
Dr. J's average is 33% from 3 and he never grew up with the 3 point line. He'd do better than Lebron in today's league. Why? Because Dr. J's mentality is, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." He'll keep scoring on you if you don't/can't stop him
