@Don If there was a major, highly publicized push for a white men to be let out after killing a man in front of his family for a $4000 car, I think he would cover it. But a white guy would never see the light of day again in such a situation and everyone would rightly inprison him for the overwhelming evidence of guilt. Edit. Hell, a large part of the innocence project’s narrative is that the locals were racist white suburb people who disliked people like Jones coming into the area. Do you honestly think that narrative would last for 3 seconds had Jones been a white man invading and killing a father in a wealthy neighborhood occupied by predominantly black people? I think we both know the answer, so stop trying to pull this absurd racial crap in a case where it shouldn’t have a say. Jones killed Paul Howell according to eyewitnesses testimony, forensic investigation, and DNA testing. End of story. I don’t care if you’re white, black, brown, yellow, or a friggen blue skinned alien from Mars. Do that to another human being and his family, and you deserve to take a long walk off a short bridge.

Why is he worth fighting for? Here’s the bottom line. I have a certain expectation of police to protect the public. That expectation is that sometimes they will have to forcibly detain a large black man who is high on drugs (and lying about it) without killing him. Yes, the fentanyl undoubtably suppressed his diaphragm muscles making it difficult to breathe. There is no doubt the drugs played a role in this death. That does not negate the role of the police is to protect and to serve. We are in the middle of an opiate epidemic and common street drugs are now coming laced with deadly levels of fentanyl. Police must assume misbehaving subjects may be under the influence of something, including fentanyl. This would mean they should not be doing things to anyone that restricts respiration. It is my expectation that the police officers who serve be the caliber of individual that would break protocol if protocol were endangering a member of the public. The fact that he didn’t tap Mr. Floyd on the shoulder by minute 4 and offer a surrender opportunity (to sit in the back of the police car) tells me he does not have the character to fulfill this role to my expectations. What he did was at the very least manslaughter and if he behaves himself his sentence would be appropriate for manslaughter.

I can see that the evidence is there and justice should be served accordingly for the Howell family. It is my hope and prayer to see people wake up and know that this is a humanity issue not a racial issue. This is about right vs wrong. Far too often in this country things are made about “race” instead of “life”. We should all have the compassion in our hearts for human life to feel this frustrated and fight for justice when any human is senselessly killed by another person regardless of the color of the skin. Right is right and wrong is wrong when that is the focal point race shouldn’t matter.
