Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery

Жыл бұрын

Saturday July 2nd a team from Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery spent the day outside of Nederland to recover a vehicle that ended up way too far up in the trees, de-beaded all 4 tires, and some how lost brakes in the process.
A couple weeks earlier another team attempted to get this out and just couldn't get the tires to seat back on the wheels, so they had to be taken into town for a tire shop to do.
The work site sits about 8500 feet and was on a 35-40 degree slope. It complicated the process dramatically and all our feet hurt by the end of the day, I know video tends to flatten the images out, but I assure you it was VERY STEEP.
A job well done by the crew! Happy 4th of July Everyone!

Thanks for a great learning video. I had never seen a Belaying done by a human vs vehicle. The Colorado area offers many opportunities to loose fingers, injure you and your rescue crew, and potential death on performing a daily recovery. I learned a great deal. Take Care and Carry On!

me too, getting your hand or legs tangled in that mess is a quick way to amputate things.

"Can we get a two to one mechanical advantage on this?" Oh it only there was a single word in the English language to describe such a thing instead of an entire sentence.

What the hell were they doing off trail on the side of the mountain. Obviously not a FS trail. Hope you reported them to the forest service. STAY THE TRAIL folks!

we didn't have to report anything (typically don't too), the locals were all over it. once they heard us back up there working on it a few even swung by to say thank you. It is our understanding from 3rd party information that some pretty steep fines are coming though. Tough lesson to learn i bet.

@@Colorado4x4RescueandRecovery good to hear but you also need to report the other aholes who are making it tough on the rest of us, due to their causing trails to close.

Hey man saw your sticker doing some trails in Colorado. Saw one at bill moore lake. Then i found your channel. Anyway i was wondering if you have any videos about how you got into 4x4 recovery? Its something i have thought about doing. If not it be great to have a video.

That’s super cool the way that worked! My question is, with your group’s obvious mechanical ability, wouldn’t it have been easier to fix the issue with the brakes and have them drive it out?

on that steep slope, not really. working under a vehicle kinda dangerous. 30+ degrees on side hill and downhill the way it was parked.

@@JustinKingOffroad Too steep to fix a braking issue but not too steep to remove/replace all four wheels?

You guys do good work, there is a group like yours in our area. I just put people in contact with them instead of fooling around getting some moron unstuck. Having worked as a logger half of my life the rigging is somewhat amusing since I am used to massive equipment pulling the equivalent to 4-5 rigs in one shot. Of course we have had to retrieve equipment that went over the side including 100,000+# yarders.

Why didn't you just fix the brakes on site? The brakes on the old XJ Rubicon are as simple as it gets.
