Imagine waiting 3 years after Winter's Heart, reading Crossroads of Twilight, and having to wait 2 more years for the next one ;) As someone who read The Wheel of Time as it was published (and re-reading from the start with each new book), I don't have as much of an issue with "The Slog" as some do. Although it's not action packed and it's full of "Jordanisms", it's kind of like revisiting my favorite vacation spot - it's a familiar world and I get to spend some time there away from stress. I think you're through the worst of it though. Knife of Dreams is going to feel much more familiar and better paced once you get into it. The Gathering Storm was my introduction to Brandon Sanderson. Although Robert Jordan wrote large sections and outlines of the last 3 books before he died, Sanderson's writing captured the essence and blended well (with the exception of one character at first, but better later). Robert Jordan's editor was his wife and many acknowledge she gave him too much leeway. Sanderson cut out a lot of rambling, but it still feels like he needed 4 or more books to wrap up all the loose threads. Since he did it in 3 books (big though they are), the pace picks up quite a bit. I've re-read the whole series several times - even The Slog although others recommend audio books or synopsis for Crossroads of Twilight for re-reads. I try not to let Sanderson's feverish publication schedule prevent me from reading other books, but I've been trying to go back and read classics in between. I jumped from "The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England" to "Nineteen Eighty-Four" to "Yumi and the Nightmare Painter" into "Don Quixote". Being a dad doesn't allow me as much time to read as I did in the "before times", so it's rare that I even finish a chapter a day and a single book often takes months of just reading a few pages here and there. It is cool that my teenage daughter who likes anime saw the artwork in Yumi and actually picked it up and started reading it when I was done. I raised my kids in a house full of bookshelves but the internet is such a quick reward that they don't really appreciate reading as much as I would like. Maybe Sanderson will pull them in.

Yes! Knife of Dreams already feels worlds better from Crossroads! I would've hated waiting for the next book in the WoT series, mainly since I am so impatient haha but after that slog I would've been concerned about the rest of the series! :) This is definitely get how this is a comfort series though, I am glad I am sticking with it! I am glad to know though that Sanderson blends will with Jordan's writing. I have been worried about that change but that's good to know the books continue well. I wouldn't mind a little cutback on ramblings though haha, I definitely have been seeing a lot of it recently in the books. I do commend you for rereading Crossroads! I cant say I would have the patience to get through it again! It feels like there is never enough time to read! As long as you get to read something, that is still a win, even if it is not a lot! But that's great your kids are reading too! Sanderson seems to be able to write for multiple audiences since his books have a pretty broad range of style, hopefully they will enjoy his book! I definitely need to try to add more classics to my TBR but I have been too addicted to fantasy books recently! But it does help to mix fantasy books with something else as well just to have something different every once in a while

There is a big slog for wheel of time books. Like that's why I don't wanna start the series.

Everytime someone talks about the Wheel of Time, I feel vindicated in DNFING the series at book two. Haha I just don't think it's for me. I really need to start The Bound and The Broken series. It sounds right up my alley. I have a hold on the eBook for The Will of the Many at my library. I'm so excited to see what the hype is about. So many different people have talked really highly about it.

haha yes! I have a love/hate relationship with WoT and Crossroad brought out the hate part of the relationship. I hope you love the bound and the broken series! It is so good I have a feeling that series is going to be a top favorite of mine once its all done. I would say its a top favorite already to be honest! The Will of the Many is amazing and I went into with no expectations, actually I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it since I didn't really care for the description, but I loved it! I hope you love it too, definitely let me know your thought on it!
