We're getting some rain, which I am super grateful for, although it did just about put a stop to our garden tour. Thankfully, it stopped long enough for us to enjoy a walk through the garden and a check on Thistle to see how close she was to calving. While it was raining, I made some delicious hamburger soup and baking powder biscuits. I hope you enjoy coming along with me!

Regarding repainting your lower cabinets, if you have some of the sage paint left, paint a large piece of cardboard and put that in front of one of the cabinets to see how it looks with the floor. If it doesn't look good, add some dark paint to your sage paint and paint another piece of cardboard. If you get something that you like, take that piece of cardboard to the paint store and find a sample that is close or have them color match for you.

I discovered that letting the biscuits sit for about 10 minutes before putting them in the oven makes them even fluffier than usual, and butter just tastes so much better if you have it to use. Oh, and I just cut them into squares with a butter knife since it uses all the dough in one roll-out.

I think a nice sage green would go lovely with the gray floors. Perhaps consider matching your curtains to your cabinets to pull the color scheme together. A soft white or pale yellow with a leaf or flower pattern that has a similar color to your cabinets would really be pretty. Can't wait to see what you decide. 🙏💞

For your cabinet color, talk to someone at a paint store or department who knows the undertones of colors. Ask to see a sage that has more of a gray undertone vs yellow/tan. It might just work. P.S. I am not that type of person and would need the help too 😅😅

I just wrote up our plan for our food forest, since we finally were able to establish some good fencing this year. It felt amazing to be able to get to the planning stage, as I have known for about three years now how I wanted to use my extra space at the bottom of my yard in the city. I will have fruit trees, but my plan is to have a high wood wall (which also gives privacy from our neighbors), where I can espalier them, allowing me a little more open air space. We already have two large rows of elderberry bushes that separate our garden area from this food forest area. I'm going to make the most of my half acre and I can completely understand your vision, as that's where I am right now. I so enjoy seeing the ranch and how much space you have to spread your wings. There is some envy just for the sake of the openness, but at the same time, I'm producing so much food right now, and that feels so amazing, because it is a compact space. I have potential for so much more down the line as well, we just have to stay 30 years old so I have time to get it all done, project by project. 😅. Considering I just turned 50, I better get to it soon! 😊 Have the most lovely day, Chelsea! ❤❤

I wondered what you had from your garden such as garlic and herbs to make salt blends? WORTH YOUR SALT LIME SALT: Mash together 1/2 cup fine sea salt and 1 Tbsp. fresh lime zest until well combined. Spread onto a paechment-lined baking pan and bake in a 225 degree oven until dry, about 50 minutes. Try it on: Grilled pineapple, steak, tacos, sweet poato fries. BASIL SALT: Pulse equal amounts of packed basil and coarse sea salt in a blender/food processor until basil is finely chopped. Spread onto a parchment-lines baking pan and bake in a 225 degree oven until dry, about 30 minutes. Try it on sliced tomatoes, corn on the cob, fresh watermelon. How to make Garlic salt from fresh garlic Ingredients ½ cup kosher salt or sea salt 6 garlic cloves Instructions Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Farenheit. Place the peeled garlic cloves and salt in a food processor. Process for about 1 minute until the garlic is finely chopped. Spread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (important, otherwise it will stick!). Bake for about 45 minutes until dry and crumbly. Remove from the oven. Wash out the food processor. Pour the mixture back into the clean bowl of the food processor and pulse several times until the desired consistency forms. (We kept ours a bit chunkier than normal salt.) Store airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 year. Homemade Garlic Salt Ingredients 1 tbsp kosher salt 1 tsp garlic powder or granulated garlic 1/4 tsp granulated onion optional: 2 tsp. grated parmesan cheese if serving over steamed veggies Instructions Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Use as needed. Can be stored in air-tight container or shaker for up to 6 months (if not adding the parmesan cheese). If adding the parmesan, may be refrigerated and used for up to 3 days. For Garlic and Herb Salt: 1/2 cup sea salt + 2 minced garlic cloves + 1/2 to 2 cups ”loosely packed” minced fresh herbs (like sage, rosemary, oregano, thyme, tarragon, chives, etc.) For Chile Pepper Salt: 1/2 cups sea salt + 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper + 1 + minced Chile peppers (from mild peppers to habaneros) For Citrus Salt: 1/2 cup sea salt + zest of 1 grapefruit, or 2 lemons, or 3 limes For (sweet) Baking Salt: 1/2 cup sea salt + seeds of 1 vanilla bean Seasoned Salt Ingredients 2/3 cup fine sea salt 1/2 cup sugar 4-1/2 teaspoons paprika 1 tablespoon onion powder 1 tablespoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon ground turmeric 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme 1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram Directions In a small bowl, combine all ingredients. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 year. SRIRACHA SALT: Stir together 1/2 cup kosher salt 5 tsp. Sriracha sauce and 1/2 tsp. fresh lime juice spread evenly onto a parchment-lined 15 x10 x 1 inch baking pan. Let stand uncovered at room temperture for at least 8 hours or overnight. Store in an airtight container at room temperture. Chile lime salt (aka Tajín) For the chile lime salt blend 1 Tbsp Salt Kosher salt or pink himalayan salt 2 Tsp True lime 1 ½ Tsp Chipotle spice Or other spicy chile powder For the seasoning blend: With a whisk or slotted spoon, thoroughly blend together the salt, True lime and the chile powder 1 Tbsp Salt,2 Tsp True lime,1 1/2 Tsp Chipotle spice For the fruit: wash and peel the fruit you choose to use. Cut into planks or spears (see youtube video above for cutting illustration) 1 Small Jicama,1 Med Cucumber,1 Mango,1 Avocado, pineapple, papaya, etc. Place fruit spears in a large bowl and sprinkle with the chile lime salt. Cut wedges of lime and serve fruit/vegetable spears on a plate with lime wedges for people to squeeze over the fruit/vegetables.

Garden looks wonderful! If you left the rows as you have them, top dressing as you talked about, you could over time mulch the walk ways with wood chips so you don't have to whipper snip them. As for your crop garden...plant sunflowers along the edge facing the house to act as a fence. But for this year you could whipper snip the non planted parts. I wish I was closer because I would be picking all those raspberries to make canned fruit! I have been craving it for a while now and I am having issues with getting my patch started. I am curious if the pigs came in with the cows or if they took off...lol. Supper looked good! Good video !
