I'm a fairly new viewer and I must say I keep finding myself binge watching. Your videos are so calm and in such a beautiful area! Thank you for sharing your sanctuary with us. And for the education as well. I hope to learn enough over the summer to grow a garden in the spring. Wish me luck! 😂

I love old cookbooks, too! I have a cookbook from the 1890s passed down from my great-great-grandmother. It's not just a cookbook, it's about remedies and treatments for illnesses, beauty products (the cold cream calls for sperm), household sanitation, and how to be a housewife. It is really fascinating!

Love vintage recipes too! My favorites are depression era. My mom was a young homemaker near the end of the depression and I like to think she might have made something similar. One recipe she made was creamed tuna over toast. Both kids and grand kids liked this for dinner. And my go to when, it’s time for dinner and I just walked in the door. One of the children was on toast detail, I was on the stove detail. First make a white sauce, butter, flour and milk. When thick like gravy add the tuna, you will know when you have enough in and lastly add peas. As you like. Frozen is the best. Not too much stirring serve over the toast. Very simple!

Some cheeses have only trace amounts of lactose, if any. Plus when it is cooked, many people can tolerate it better. My daughter is lactose intolerant and does okay most of the time with cheeses and baked goods. If she has lots of dairy in a day or ice cream or something, she takes lactase pills (you can get them at any drug store or grocery store). If you also plan on making cheese stuff, spinach pairs well to help combat lactose. Love the bunkie. That has come together so fast! It is really awesome Dan is up for all those projects! It would be nice to know someone with those skills near me!

Don't forget you can "enhance" shampoos with herbs good for smell or hair health. I currently have a rosemary and mint infusing. For a body wash I use castile soap, either infused with mint or my current one "cooking" is hibiscus, rose and raw honey. Just pop your herbs in, leave in a dark place until you want it, strain and use. I tend to leave mine minimum of 12 weeks.

Thanks for sharing your feelings about the old cookbooks; I’m 71 & have my Mom’s old cookbooks & appreciate them for the simplicity! It’s also fun to guess what an “egg sized piece of butter” looks like😅 I collect & dry my herbs & plants & store them & garden seeds in nice little plastic containers (labelled with masking tape. Those baking powder containers may be handy for storing seeds, etc. in. Blessings to everyone 🤗💕🇨🇦

I love vintage and antique items and the history they hold. I always wonder when I'm holding an item or walking through an old building, what stories they could tell, if only they could speak. I think I found out too late that I should've been a historian of some sort because I LOVE to research the history of items, places, and people...I have MANY vintage and antique cookbooks and other items....it's a good thing (I guess) that I live in a small house, because I would be dangerous if we had the room...lol...I truly enjoy and look forward to each and every one of your vlogs! 💚💙

It was lovely to have a walk around your property, it gives a better perspective on where you live. I live in Newcastle which is about a couple of hundred miles north of Sydney, Australia. It is a city set on a beautiful coast and although it was very industrial with steel works, it isn't now as they have all closed down and we just love living here. We are close to the countryside, mountains, lake and ocean. It is hard to imagine the Winters you experience as it doesn't snow here. We had a cabin on a property in the New England area of New South Wales and the property looks very similar, some of our best times were spent on the farm. Thank you for your wonderful videos, I look forward to each of them.

I make my own Castile soap from scratch a few gallons at a time. I use a dedicated roaster oven. It does take several hours. I have a skin care company and use the most of it for liquid hand soap. I make a shampoo body bar as well from lye and oils. I make about 12 pounds at a time. I put in a lot of hair healthy ingredients. It is so easy just to have one bar in the shower.
