Here is a rewritten version of the transcript in simpler terms: Peter Zeihan, a geopolitical expert, discussed various topics, including: * The impact of the assassination attempt on Trump's political future. * The Republican party's coalition and Trump's influence. * The Democratic party's motivation to vote and potential candidates. * The need for an industrial policy to build out the industrial plant and electrical grid. * The significance of relations with Mexico for American manufacturing. * The future of NATO and the potential impact of a Trump presidency. Some key points from the discussion include: * Trump's influence on the Republican party and his potential to break with traditional alliances. * The Democratic party's lack of coherence and reliance on opposition to Trump. * The importance of independent voters in the election. * The need for the US to develop an industrial policy to remain competitive. * The significance of relations with Mexico for American manufacturing. * The potential for a breakdown in relations with Mexico under a Trump presidency. * The future of NATO and the potential impact of a Trump presidency on the alliance. Overall, the discussion focused on the current state of American politics, the potential impact of a Trump presidency, and the significance of various geopolitical relationships for the US.

Shouldn’t use the term “economic liberals” to describe those wanting more government economic regulation. That’s a common mistake. “Liberal” means “freedom” which means less regulations. Free market capitalists are actually “economic liberals.” For instance, Reagan and thatcher were called “economic Neo-liberals.” Instead, you should use the term “economic socialists” or “economic progressives” or “economic regulationists.”
@paulbradford6475

Agreed, but it's in any liberals DNA to use the precise opposite term to soften the meaning of what their true intentions are, which is, of course, more regulation and less freedom.

I have seen people refer to "small l liberal" as freedom from government interference and "capital L Liberal" for the socialist/progressive modern movement. No doubt it's confusing and I had to re-watch that part to understand how he interpreted that graph. I agree we need better language on this distinction.

That new US centered industrial plants will be in states that are not friendly towards traditional oriented unions. (e.g Texas & Louisiana) A new era of organized labor outside of traditional 20th Century style unions. Also I could see these new manufacturing companies taking a page from Google and create their own "union" for their workers. Essentially keeping independent labor union entities out of the management-labor issues within a company.

If the US ever uses a system of proportional Representation, the Single Transferable Vote used in Ireland, Australia, and Malta would be a great fit. It is the only system of PR where voters number ranked candidates that elect politicians in small multimember districts. The great thing about this system is that politicians are dependent on vote transfers to get elected.
@Bareego
@Bareego 3 ай бұрын
the added big advantage is that you can vote for a smaller party and still through your preference put your vote on the scales for the main parties. So for example if you want to vote for the Greens, and the Greens don't win that location, your preference can still go to labor and this can prevent the right wing liberals to win that location. This goes for the right side of politics as well. This throws a spanner in many of the shenanigans that major parties employ to unjustly win locations.

That chart showing the axis of economics and social issues is great for a general sweeping overview. However, it doesn't address real concerns over power abuses, and a general breakdown of checks and balances to hold them in check. Voters are concerned about that too. Do charts for THOSE concerns exist?

Peter is wrong about the polls. The polls were dispositive in 2020 for most of the election cycle, although Trump did out perform. They showed Biden up and he maintained that and won. Peter wants to waive that away in an effort to support his theory that Trump will lose this election. The polls can change of course but if they hold Trump will win.

I would say he backed off on the "landslide" outcome, but still firmly believes Biden could have won the election. Of course Biden has removed himself from the race after this interview occurred. He postulated on that possibility if that would happen and stands firm on a Democratic victory. How large of a victory that will be depends on who the Democrats go with as there eventual candidate. He was talking up the possibility of some state governor becoming the candidate as being potentially huge.

The reasons for these recent policies of international trade (a.k.a. globalization) is more about nations not following the international fair trade practices concerning government subsidies, IP theft, human rights abuses, etc. which is probably why the Biden administration “institutionalized” trade policies from the previous administration. That is, if we go populist simply because certain parts of the world do not subscribe to these norms in fair-trade, taxes, law and order, rule of law, national border/sovereignty, etc., it maybe hard to convince voters as we hold certain values and norms. Quite frankly, it was wrong with the Kissinger/Nixon realm where you “hope” they will subscribe to these norms once economic prosperity sinks in. Right now, I would like to hear more of Zeihan’s views on the future of these countries (who don’t subscribe to these norms) post 2024.

The problem being that Trump is running (again) for the highest office in the land, not a game show, and he clearly has zero respect for the office of the Presidency as evidenced by his behavior in that office; and you’ve practically admitted as much by your response! Your suggestion is “You haven’t been to one of his rallies: Trump is merely an entertainer.” That’s exactly the issue here! I also disagree with that line of thinking because if he’s ‘merely’ anything, he’s merely in it for himself and his brand. He couldn’t care less about America as long as he “gets his.” That is an absolutely destructive attitude for someone managing a McDonald’s, let alone the PRESIDENT.
