I think you nailed it on the head with what makes Trostani so great! I love cheating out normal creatures as tokens and then populating them with Trostani in my own deck. Ulvenwald Hydra has easily become my MVP for the deck.

Back in 2016 when I started playing Commander, that was actually my first ever deck. Back then much of the cards on this video didn't exist (Bramble Sovereign, Helm of the Host, etc), but most of the ideas were already there. Now you have given me lots of ideas to revisit the deck again. Gosh, DJ, stop giving us so many awesome ideas! I'm still recovering from all the fun I had with the Izoni decklist! Over the tone, I updated my Trostani this way without notifying it. I added helm of the host and copy creatures cards and suddenly, games were pretty fun to play!

Interesting. Populate has always been the Selesnya mechanic I've kinda ignored (extra Desolation Twins, whoopdidoo...), but I'm clearly going to have to reevaluate :) Now you've got me thinking about the possibilities with Bant: Selesnya for the populate, and Blue for the Cackling Counterpart and Clone Legion - if we're going to be creating token copies of our best creatures, why not copy their best creatures too :D

This is simmilar to my Brudiclad deck. I basically bought the precon, changed the commander and added a few copy artifact and create token effects. Love it so much

I love this! I made a deck somewhat like this, but with Kynaios and Tiro as commander for blue and red. Blue obviously has more copy effects and red has some cool things like Gisela that get crazy with helm of the host.

If you put helm of the host on trostani, you CA populate the no legendary token, which also has populate so you can get a huge number of trostanis which each give you additional life gain triggers and can populate themselves

Trostani is actually in a deck I’m building with the unicorn legendary Emiel as the commander. Making a blink deck with a bunch of “when a creature enters under your control but I just so happen to have a helm of the host lying around. Token blink hybrid deck isn’t too shabby of a concept. I’m just worried about what happens when it isn’t working. 😅

I run a Karametra Tokens deck with both Tristoni's as awesome generals. Nacatal War-pride from Future sight does very very well with myriad/token doublers.

Hey I don't think the Scion of Vitu-Ghazi token doesn't work. It reads "if cast from your hand" for the ETB effect. Unless that only applies to the bird.

I'm reading it the same. To me, it even looks like the populate action is dependent on being cast from hand. So this is either a non-combo, or a great example at how bad I am at understanding cards. Maybe Geist-Honored Monk instead?

I'm surprised (not really though since this was most likely filmed before the latest command zone) that the new trostani wasn't a little more hyped in this deck tech since it's kind of a hoser to expropriate. More surprised that crested sunmare didn't get mentioned since it synergizes with trostani so well with the life gain! Sweet tech though! Never really build in selesnya but probably will now!

This deck tech reminds me of my brudiclad deck. Also making insane amounts of token copies of wurmcoil engine or hellrider. I think ill make a similar deck like this one since it's so much fun and i have a lot of cards to make more tokens that are not being used.

My trostani deck is Lord tribal Why make a 5/5 when you can have a 5/5 with +4/+6? And gain 20 life? And make a 4/4 angel at the end step from gaining all that life? And doing that each turn! And if they board wipe, that gains more life And now you have thousands of life and an army of tokens immune to damage thanks to emmara and assault formation for when you are ready to gruul smash in selesnya

Love it! I used to have a 60 cards deck that utilizes Bant token generators for this kind of theme (Trostani was also part of it), it's good that artifacts these days generate enough tokens for Trostani to populate as she see fits. I saw a Tajic life gain deck from GatheringMagic the other day, if that deck battles yours, I wonder which side would win?

My Trostani deck is interesting. I have a go-wide shell, with lots of cloning and cheating out big creatures as tokens. There’s also a lot of cheaper cards (avg mana cost is abt 3.2) and card draw, for an aggressive, powerful deck

Trostani Discordant seems eh, until thinking how she helps vs Xantcha and Zedruu...as well and "I'm gonna steal/play yer deck, thanks" strategies. I know, Homeward Path, but that's 1 of 99 cards and costs a land drop (and possibly a land tutor).

i was really sad when all the card shops i went to sold out of the guild kit, but i was at target and thought i should at least check. and well i wouldnt be writing this unless i found it there, i know people bash on buying tcg from walmart and the such, but we should bash on those who bought the kits just to sell the one card in there and piece sell the rest.

One nitpick: you mention the nombo with Divine Vistitation but it's still in your list. Love the deck, though, much more so than traditional Trostani lists. I was sad to learn, when I tried to build this on MTGO, that Regal Behemoth isn't "printed" online. :/

The main weakness with token W/G decks are board wipes + mass bounce. Any suggestions to boost up your tokens? Ive got Gaddock Teeg, Tiferi's Protection, selfless spirit, and natural affinity. The latter I will use to really hold the table's lands hostage. Just have to run a decent ramp package (good thing for green) to stem the mana-hemorrhage. What else have people tried and are effective?

You know.... I still don't understand why Trostani is the premier token commander when you get so much more value in creating tokens from Rhys the Redeemed. I get that he doesn't have the life gain aspect, however I would rather get all the tokens rather than chose to get one of them. Either way, all the things you mentioned really work well with him as well as with Trostani. Also after watching and taking a second look at my own Rhys deck, I was a little disappointed to remember that both can only do creature tokens. I would have loved to include Treasure Map and Tamiyo's Journal in my list of tokens to double.

@@nebula8851 price I'll give you, but Trostani is no more immune to sweepers than Rhys, and I would argue Rhys is more resilient to it because he costs less to cast (one mana verses four) and has token generation built into his abilities.

Ser Pink Knight in a brudaclad deck consider chronozoa, it gets out of hand REALLY quick. If Chronozoa becomes a copy of another creature and is put into the graveyard from the battlefield, no copies will be created. If another creature becomes a copy of Chronozoa and is put into a graveyard from the battlefield (with no time counters on it), two copies of Chronozoa will be created. because of this ruling. the existing tokens were already there get no time counters...then use a sac engine or boardwipe or go all in and watch everyone squirm.

For this deck, I would actually reccommend getting a Serra Avatar (for the Soul Foundry) and/or Ajani Goldmane, Doubling Season, and Parallel Lives. The amount of life that you would get from Doubling Season + Parallel Lives + Anointed Procession + Growing Ranks with the avatars, whose P/T = your life total, is absolutely DISGUSTING! Just from those alone, you can MULTIPLY YOUR LIFE TOTAL BY 9 WHENEVER IT IS YOUR TURN! Put Song of the Wordsoul on top of that, and you could multiply your life by 9 FOR EVERY SPELL THAT YOU CAST!

For sure. No other token-based commander comes close to the insane power of Rhys. Although I actually don’t run Trostani in my deck, I use Soul Warden instead. Almost all my tokens are 1/1s so the 1 mana cost of the Warden beats Trostani’s WWGG for the same effect. Better actually, since it also gains me life whenever other players get creatures.

I think you failed to mention one huge thing, when you make a token of Scion it goes infinite. Token comes in, makes a bird and populates. You have it populate itself. Then another one comes in, it makes a bird and you populate. Have it populate itself. It just goes forever.
