Jumbos on the Noarlunga Centre line December 2012

The 2000/2100 class railcars, otherwise known as Jumbos by local rail enthusiasts in Adelaide, had entered service on 22nd February 1980. They were a common sight on the Noarlunga Centre (terminus extended to Seaford in 2014) line & performed well on express runs. But from the start of 2013, they were banished from that line (& to Tonsley/Flinders due to electrification works.
During their final month (December 2012) of running on the NC line, I recorded various workings of them in service on their original stomping ground. I did not record the dates or times of the clips, but the times of their scheduled departures from Adelaide, Brighton & NC are provided in captions. All video is handheld with an old JVC Everio camcorder. Enjoy

I remember catching these in the early 80s when 8 was a little kid. I thought they looked like spaceships with that raised pod. They had a long service life!

The last 2000 class train to run on the Noarlunga line was a 6 car set empty movement to Adelaide new years day January 2013. (Jumbos were limited to 6 cars, that was the maximum length possible).

I remember catching jumbos in the late 90s. They had character compared to the newer 3000s which were kinda boring

Yep the design was inspired by the SPV 2000. Perhaps the reason the jumbos were the 2000 class as well.
