I turned 13 the year this song hit. I was just starting to get into hair metal bands like Dokken, Whitesnake, and other bands of the ilk, but Van Halen still put out music that feels to this day quintessentially 80s. I mean, jam “In My Dreams” or “In the Still of the Night” and I feel nostalgic. But play “Jump” and I’m immediately catapulted back to my young. Playing air guitar with my best friend on hunks of wood we nailed to look like a Flying V or an Explorer in the backyard. The flourishes here only help hold me in that moment, that long ago time and place, where life was easier and music was fun. Eddie would have been proud of this cover. Thanks Cole for taking me back home for a wonderful little bit.
