Thanks for taking the time to explain some of what you're doing there... it's just mind-blowingly FUN to watch you play! Man, to see you -AND- Tommy Emmanuel together, that would be freakin' awesome, but a bit far to travel. Hope you find your way to North America soon, upper-state NY region, please. ;-)

I thought Paul Gilbert was the King of the long slender fingers, but Mike has given him a challenge! My God, look at his pinky finger! It's longer than my middle finger! And the brain and heart controlling those fingers is what really makes them wonderful. What a talent.

I hope Mike is reading some of these. We saw Mike and Tommy in Mill Valley, CA. I was somewhat prepared but my wife had no idea what to expect. We were both astounded with the virtuosity, the charming entertainment and were completely impressed with the great guy Mike is. Had a wee chat after the set and picked up some cds to support the cause. Mike's set remains one of our favorite experiences. Thanks, Mike. Please come back to play.

Mike Dawes is fantastic. Yes, his guitar playing is some of the best I've ever heard... But also, he just has so much joy and humor about him. You can see in his face that he's just as amused by the clever tricks and fun phrasing etc... as we are, and it doesn't come off as cockey but just someone with something cool to share.

saw Mike in Portsmouth NH just a couple of weeks ago and it was simply fantastic. his love of the pieces he is playing just shines out. Yes its a virtuoso performance but so musical as well, not just a demonstration of technique - I'm a fanboy and thanks Justin for this superb "Hang" it was fascinating to be able to eavesdrop! - 3 thumbs up :)

Thanks so much for this! I first heard of Mike from his Rick Beato vid talking about creating his version of All Along the Watchtower. Then got to see him with Tommy Emmanuel in January 2022. This was really cool to see/hear about some of his creative processes. The only thing my playing has in common with his playing is that I speed up when I get anxious or excited, too. And that's just in my own living room. Thanks again, Justin. Cheers to you both!

Hi Justin and Mike. Really enjoyed this video. At about nine minutes 25 seconds into the video, Mike comments that tuning DADGAD down a whole step to CFCDFC makes the strings too loose. Well true that, but if you just use heavier gauge strings, you can put the same tension on the strings and the bridge and it sounds great. I’m a baritone vocal so this is very helpful for me for that reason.. I always keep one guitar set up this way. In fact I even use a wound string for the second, (B) string. This fatten up the tone and take some of the twang out of it, useful when using the four string power cords and droning the first and second strings open over progressions (similar to standard tuning four finger G chord to Cadd9, Dsus4, etc…) Enjoy!
