When measure Superheat and Subcooling, where would one put the thermometer? For Superheat, the pressure gauge would go where the suction line access port is (but if there isn't one, where would you put the access port?), but would the proper place to read temperature be at the END of the suction line right off of the compressor? Additionally, for measuring Subcooling, the pressure gauge would go where the liquid line access port is (but if there isn't one, where would you put the access port?), but would you put the thermometer right before the metering/expansion device? LASTLY, how would reading the discharge line work, as there usually isn't an access port? Would you simply read temperature with a thermometer on the discharge line as it ENTERS the condenser and as it EXITS the condenser?

Where do you measure your high side pressure? I’ve been told that you shouldn’t take this reading from the service port at the compressor(discharge line). Instead, you should try to get your high side pressure reading after your condenser(liquid line). I know some, maybe most rooftop package units do not have a port to hook up to after the condenser. Is this accurate at all? Good stuff, I enjoy your content.

He is talking about attaching a pipe clamp thermometer to measure temperature. Not hooking up to port to measure pressure.

In regards to mini split heat pump units, if you are meant to use the sub cooling method as a way to check refrigerant charge because of EEV in outdoor unit, how are you able to do it if there is only 1 service port on the Suction line and nothing on the liquid line? a lot of mini split systems seem to have this set up. thanks!

Awesome explanation. The required superheat ensures no liquid enters the compressor & The required supercool ensures no vapor enters the expansion orifice. Any of your KZbin explains what happens to super heat & sub cooling when it is humid?

Awesome video and very easy to follow. Just a question though, at the end the range of sub cooling is 12-15 F, that’s the difference between the pipe temperature and SCT right?

As far as I know. Superheat = suction line - saturation. Because suction line has higher temperature than saturation. You mentioned opposite.

Your measurement for superheat @6:25 is backwards. Based off your own example you would have had a -10 degree superheat
@canman10883 жыл бұрын
And discharge superheat(taking temp. on discharge line)will tell you if valves are going bad in a compressor.
