I subscribed & look forward to watching more of your videos because not only are you exceptionally knowledgeable, you are an excellent instructor by not assuming the observer has prior knowledge. I also like how you explain HVAC / electrical terminology. Thanks too for speaking slowly and clearly and no excess blah, blah or music. Anyhow, thanks so much for your time and sharing your knowledge in the best way ever! God Bless!

Just learned how to jump out my thermostat! Batteries must have died in our thermostat. Replaced them, but got no display. Tried the reset procedure, but had no luck. Temp outside is about 30°F, and it is 1 am. I figured I could survive until the morning and save a night time call, if I could run the furnace without the thermostat a couple times. While watching, the furnace came on and the display came up. If it goes out again, I know how to get it started until morning. Your video is clear and concise, and I thank you for it! May have to replace the thermostat tomorrow, but not tonight!

If I could offer a reward, you would surely get it. Thank you. I woke up to a blank t-stat and my AC is dead so far. YOu have given me a clear starting point without me feeling like an idiot.

I had a whole new AC and heater installed in the summer, so they never checked to see if the heater worked. No heat setting even comes up on the Honeywell Home programmable thermostat. I jumped white to red and furnace still does not come on. Fan and AC work fine....any idea what's wrong?

One thing you didn't mention is if you accidentally jump from R to C. You can blow the fuse and you now need to replace it.

So glad we have YT accessible and that you made this video! My Gen 3 Nest that's been working since 2018 just stopped working throwing a Rc fault (no power). It's in the teens with sleet/snow. I was able to bypass the thermostat via some old wires and a light switch on the HVAC panel itself. The detail in yopur video gave me the confidence to cut power to the hvac and wire in the bypass switch as a temp solution. Now I just need to figure out why the sudden Rc power fault at the Nest unit. Voltmeter is not reading any volts there so it's in the wire somewhere, I believe. If anybody reading this has any thoughts, send it....

Thats exactly what just happened to me! Very short life span for such an expensive thermostat. Last Nest product I'll ever be buying!

Merry Christmas! (saw you posted this on Christmas). Can you tell me what relays you use? I have a nat gas space heater in the living room of a rental unit and I have power 6" ducts from the ceiling of the living room to the two far ends of the apartment, but they are on timer switches. I want a thermostat at each end of the unit (a kitchen and a bedroom) to turn on the fan when the temp drops enough. I'll power the stat with a 24v AC to DC adaptor. I'll house the relay in a 2-gang metal outside the wall box. Anyway, I'm just trying to find the best relay for the 24v DC to turn on the 120v AC power to the powered duct.

the blue wire is only a com for the t-stat to use 24V instead of batteries. Compressor and fan relays have 24V com side already hooked in their place of origin directly to transformer com. Only the power R is sent to yellow and green which is Compressor and indoor fan relays to click in.

Great video. Big fan! One question though. On site I have a package unit on the roof, and the thermostat is inside the office. If I jump the wires on the package unit, will the thermostat downstairs be shortcircuited?
@JumpermanTech2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Nothing will be short-circuited. You can jump out the wires at the unit or you can jump it out at the thermostat. It makes no difference. Just make sure you jump out the correct wires. Follow the video for the exact info. Stay tuned for new videos every week

Thank you for this video. I was able to confirm the thermostat was the culprit in my furnace OOS. It turned out that the R pin on the thermostat itself was broken from its circuit board. Therefore, the 24VAC R was not getting supplied to any of the W, Y or G pins. Out came my trusty old soldering iron and i was able to solder in a new jumper from pin to circuit board. DONE DEAL! Cost????? == $0.00
