Appreciate the candid video - happens to us all! I’ve taken these off before and some additional tips that helped: -leave the front allen screw alone so as to avoid changing pitch, loosen only the rear -heat around the pulley to expand it slightly, using a heat gun or propane torch -slide a short iron pipe over the shaft protrusion to tap on the pulley hub using a hammer or brass mallet. this breaks the pulley free from the shaft by first sliding it backwards slightly. Short Impact impulses are almost always a safer way of freeing something versus a large static force (aka the puller).

Literally, there was one job I had where I had to take a motor out of a make up air unit and I spent the entire day taking the bearings off which were rusty as hell.

Get yourself a blunt drill bit , spray the pulley with penetration fluid(WD40 is not that great) and then start to drill the end of the shaft until it gets hot or you see smoke. This should help to unseize the pulley. Also when using that type of pulley best to use a brace between the claws and pulley. i.e flat piece of wood. Keep the videos coming :)

Put a nut on the end of the shaft and put your puller into the nut. Helps keep it from getting off center or falling off. Good video

Great video. I'm glad you showed the way it really is sometimes 😅 Just did almost exactly the same job yesterday but got lucky though no rust came right off without needing the puller.

ThankX for the video! OH I RECOMMEND first heating up the Allen screws with a torch in case the maker used a lock tite glue on their threads and then also wd40 the screws before removal.

This was My weekend. Cooler was doing random squeaks. Drove wife nuts. Went to take that thing off. Didn’t know about a puller. Broke it with a screwdriver. Said f it. Got a 3/4 hp vs the 1/2. Thr Home Depot didn’t have any. Got home. Learned the pulley is separate. Went back. Wrong size pulley. The only size they had again at the small hd. Day later drove 45 min to another one. The fun continues after lunch. Fingers crossed.

Use a paint stripper and make it hot, doctor heat works always good, wd 40 not that is a teflon spray , we use "imal" rust spray let it works 1 day and spray more again in that day, you see that works better.

2:14 It's not rusty. Clearly the threads are torn up: 1:01 Use a threading die to chase the threads. More importantly, the edge of the end of the shaft looks like it's peened over. See that around 4:07 By the time you were done you could see the bright spots on the shaft where the shaft had interfered with the bore of the threaded bushing when you tried to pull off the pulley assembly. I bet the new pulley didn't go on easily unless you dressed up the end of the shaft.

I Use kroil lubricant spray instead of wd40. Good video
@youcefassou15922 ай бұрын
You should have saved that vintage v pulley cast iron man. You should have taken of the screws completely from the pulley so you can spray the wd40 through the the holes that will lubricate the whole system but the over nigth lubrication would have made the job easy and saved the beautiful pulley. Just do not use force but use sense.

What kind of bearings are in it? Are the bearings noisy? When you turn it off and the shaft is still spinning, does it make noise? Does it drag or make noise when you turn it by hand?

I pulled mine back and fourth then sanded the shaft . because i was replacing the motor too. It was stuck on the marks from thr retaining screws. I think someone put on one of the allen screws with a impact. It scores the pulley shaft and locked up my pulley. I showed that thing who the boss was though

Good video but used the wrong type of puller. There is a puller that looks like a disc that cam be separated in half. That would fit behind the pulley and around the entire base of the pulley rather than having the force focused on 3 points. Great job though.

You could have applied heat to the pulley with small propane torch and put a round Metal Disk that slipped behind the pulley and pulled on that instead of the Pulley itself because the pulley is made of an inferior metal.

You should back off the backside of the pulley, the threaded end... and put the pulley on the back of the front side. Maybe less of a chance to destroy the pulley.
