one possible improvment is to have the iron trapdoors on both side of the slime / honey block lines, this way, you don't run into the issue of the second line breaking bamboos that grow in between the machine lines. the downside is that it makes the lines smaller, due to the push limit, and you'll have to have the "motor" part of the machine with the observers somewhere, so i guess the line where the motor goes through would be better without bamboos. It's probably less space efficient, but that might be a worth trade off : no items on the ground, for a little less space efficiency

I recommend changing it to one blade instead of two. But make each blade 4 wide with iron trapdoors on each side of the blade, this means your sacrificing the width of each flying machine, but reducing the possibility of harvesting stray bamboo growth to 0% which saves that 8ms per tick.

Because of the new fast unloading of minecarts with mud and lava cauldrons, bamboo generators are much more feasible. Double pulse bone meal into the plants with an observer, break with stick pistons holding iron trap doors, and have have your collection underneath with a fast unloader at each end. I'm fueling a 320 furnace smelter using 4 x 8 plant modules, and each quick pass of the minecart from only 2 of the modules (there's two rails, one for every 2 modules) yields about 4 stacks of bamboo. So you get 4 stacks of bamboo every 5 seconds or so out of only 16 bamboo plants. Simply connect comparators to the first and last furnace to detect a fuel level, and have those activate your generators. Moss farms make it all even more feasible, with both you're still using a lot less space and maybe even less resources than a huge bamboo harvesting farm.

Such a creative and original design with the return of the minecarts! Great job!
@Erik-pu4mj2 жыл бұрын
Idea: stacked minecart harvesters Using your first one-way design, you could collect two-high segments starting from the top. Ex. 7 tall would be three flying machines--top launching first, then middle, then bottom. I believe this should significantly mitigate fallen item entities, as the vast majority will be within the minecart on the way out, and only the bottom flying machine will encounter grown bamboo on the way back. This will use significantly more minecarts at a time, but I still expect this to be a gain over the item entity lag. The first issue, of course, is creating engines one block tall so the flying machines don't interfere with each other. Return stations (I imagine utilizing pistons to trigger observers below them) can merely be staggered. (The lowest flying machine will have the furthest return stations.) The second issue is minecart unloading. Minecart snap tricks probably won't work, but, allowing them to fall on return should (as the machines are already staggered). It's just a matter of creating a return system that can handle waves of minecarts. Finally, dispensing minecarts on each of the flying machines might be the most difficult piece. But, using the same high drops as unloading, I believe reloading can be done from any height as well. So, staggering launch stations enough to allow the minecart dispensing system to tile should do the trick. I'm not a technical Minecrafter, so I have little faith I could get this to work myself. But I believe you could, and that this extension of your idea might have merit. So... hope this helps!

Note: I'm not actually certain the flying machines, as they are, would interfere with each other if the top always launches first.

To improve efficiency/decrease lag on the traditional farm design rotate the collection system 90°. Then use observers to release the minecarts when the flying machine moves across the field. If each track has a U-turn, covering 2 rows only half of the minecarts would be required. Less minecarts in motion, less lag. The items should be picked up quicker and therefore not sit waiting for the minecarts to return.

I'm not a red stone genius like most of the youtubers I watch for these kinds of machines, but couldn't you have a similar flying machine, one that runs a few blocks back, on the bottom with minecart hoppers that catch the items after they've been cut, through the dirt so there aren't any entities left behind? You'd still save on tracks, but I would suspect the way those work on the top would work the same on the bottom.
@sonic4spuds2 жыл бұрын
That would likely be as bad on entity lag, as items will be stuck on bamboo like the standard minecraft pickup setup.
@Willow-uv9ms2 жыл бұрын
Wait, that's actually really smart. The issue with the first design was that the minecarts move way too fast to stay in sync with the flying machine, but if they were on their own flying machine, surely you'd have the best both worlds?
@andrewholmes85702 жыл бұрын
I think you're on to something. You're meaning to have hopper minecarts being pulled along on both machines, so they both have minecarts on them at all times, right? The only spots you couldn't pull the minecarts on the second row would be where the pistons/observers sit, but that bamboo has something directly above it the whole time, blocking those ones from growing. Extra trapdoors would mean that you'd have to rework the size of each flying machine to compensate for the piston push limit (pretty sure it'd be 4 wide per module instead of 6), and have some pretty good timing on the cart loader, but trading a couple extra pistons for catching the extra entities might be worth it from a lag/efficiency perspective.
@Punmaster90012 жыл бұрын
@@andrewholmes8570 Just seeing how he has the hoppercarts on top, I would think the machine could be built on the bottom (with some modifications) to grab anything that lands on the dirt similar to how a rail system is usually utilized. I'm not an expert on any of the designs people come up with. I understand the basics, usually, when I replicate builds in a test world. I mostly do single player for that, so I'm also not familiar with lag in these situations as I tend to stick to smaller builds. There's a good possiblity that going back to the original rail system might work better than what I'm thinking.
@andrewholmes85702 жыл бұрын
@@Punmaster9001 I get what you're saying now. You might lose some of the bamboo that lands on top of the stalks instead of the ground, but that's not a huge issue most of the time. It'd be worth trying out to see if it saved on lag from standard rails underneath. It definitely uses less resources.

@AkiSan02 жыл бұрын
i would be interested in how a farm would compare, that harvests tall bamboo sequentially. you would have a bambo on mud "10x10 block" that grows 15 high (or which hight/cycle time/width combination would be best). send the minecarts out once, from a dispenser setup towards a instant unloader setup. each module is timed in a way that machine 1 havests -> once the items are sucked up -> machine two launches etc. when the last module harvests, the first module is grown to its max height. thus you have a small amount of items permanently, instead of a lot of items periodically. this would be nice to look at, to make it even more fancy, you can do that for smaller slices (as small as you can make the flying machines) and have them harvests in set intervals (to generate wave form patterns).

Ok, I just spent some time trying out a system that uses two sets of synchronized flying machines, with the second one below the bamboo to collect the items. 1.19 makes this much easier to do thanks to the mud blocks, otherwise we wouldn't be able to plant the bamboo on a non-full cube and couldn't use minecarts on top of honey blocks. Since we now can use this system I just tried to use the classic mob farm sweepers with the flying machines at the side of the farm and a 9 block wide field. This definetly needs some improvement, as of right now, I am loosing way too many items that just get shot to random places or fall out of the side gap. But the concept itself works very well and, once the beforementioned problem is solved, should result in a lower amount of item entities laying around. Since I only just use a single line of slime/honey to break the plants, some items will stay on top of the bamboo plants. This might actually be super easy to fix by using two harvesters with short delay. The second machine would just push off the items and the collector could reach all of the items. The odds of a bamboo plant growing once, yet alone twice inbetween is minimal

An interesting change to this could be to make it so that both slime/honey sweepers had minecarts that could collect bamboo. This could limit the loss and lag from items that are broken by it. It would be more complicated but you could redesign each sweeper to have a trap door on both sides and then extend the slime/honey vertically by one block to push and pull it. You would obviously need more flying machines but the trade off may be worth it. For the second set of minecarts maybe drop them from above? Or perhaps you could use something like sand that gets dispensed over the grown bamboo and have 4 flying machine arms instead, two for cutting below with two minecarts above to pick the items up when they get forced on top of the sand, then the sand would be pushed into collection channels water streams before every push limit to be redispensed shortly before the next harvest.

I can think of solutions to make it closer to lossless and have it lag friendly, but it would cost a bit more in terms of moving mass. Nave a single blade with trap doors either side and move it witha flying machine from above. May require a wall the height of the machine before you can cap off the roof, but in theory once the trap door breaks the bamboo, the wall will prevent it from falling behind and theyll drop straight into the carts. Then just reverse it, move the carts to the other side and it'll do the same thing. Nothing would get broken without a cart there to collect, or is blocked from growing. Either that or have a wall of glass between the 2 blades in the setup you had to block growth, but that eats into efficiency and requires 1 wide engines

A thought for the item issue. What about instead of the flying machine traveling back over the bamboo maybe have the flying machine be pushed up 5 blocks and the end and have it return over the farm itself. They would get back to the starting area ready to be put back on the flying machine long before it gets back.

Have a line of pistons below the machine to move down the trapdoors. Let the machine move a bit over the trapdoors such that we can have a second line of pistons that moves down the slime/honey blocks directly behind the trapdoors. This should now have reversed the blade and it can just be pushed up again after the machine has fully passed. The minecarts here would also be still in position

I wonder about doubling up the amount of flying machines so that you can have the trapdoors on either side of the same slime/honey blocks. This way there is no chance of the pesky bamboo growth in between the harvesting rows. The only complication would be the engine itself, since the trapdoors would have to go on the other end it which would be a couple blocks from the harvesting sweepers. You'd have to break the mine carts on both sides and delay dispensing some of them so that they are all synced up somehow. Seems complicated and requires alternating modules, but the lag reduction would be worth it, imo.

Just a thought, what about making the bamboo flier only have a break arm above, and handle all the pickup with a looped over under reaching arm?
@TroZ_Games2 жыл бұрын
Could you make the blades shorter, like three blocks long, but have a trapdoor on each side? That would be 9 blocks, which would hopefully be enough to attack a push mechanism to the top? That would eliminate the need for 2 blades. If you used a slower flying machine engine, it would ally you to harvest 4 tall or taller bamboo without any falling on the ground.

Hey mango why not instead of sending the machine back right away have it sit at the end and sending it after bamboo has grown a little. This would also mean that you will need item Collection on both sides but that's not that much of a problem as you can store items from both side in a centralised storage.

ILMANGO! Just a quick tip here: I'm not sure, but I think the new slime farm would get slightly more efficient if you put multiple Iron golems in the same spot so that they could kill different slimes at the same time. If you read this comment, then please let me know what you think a out the idea. Love you!

Definitely. Especially for the single layer design with magma blocks. You could also have the golem cells closer to each other
@masterkasper50242 жыл бұрын
And if you wanted to go really overkill you could even add a Iron golem farm that automatically drops down iron golems for the slimes to die faster. But then you would have needed hopperminecarts to go all over the place. But it would have been cool! Also, can slimes spawn on magma blocks? They cant, right?

I wouldn‘t wonder if docm would use it in his next episode

Would it be possible to fill the gap between the two sweepers so that bamboo can't grow in between them? Would take more blocks/resources but would mean less items on the ground
@Yanni_X2 жыл бұрын
Could you create some kind of plate between the two flying-machine parts, so that everything harvested from the front one stays on the machine until the back one catches up? You‘d need more engines to push more blocks, but maybe you could use it somehow

I started out with the idea of having another flying machine beneath to collect the bamboo on the dirt, but would it be possible to have another flying machine on the inside of the one you have designed to block out where the bamboo could potentially grow? If it's too thin, would it be worth making the engine 4 wide instead so you can fit another flying machine on the inside that moves at the same time

maybe you could use self propelled minecarts to reduce rail count or just use another flying machine underneath the dirt.

I think the best solution for a bamboo farm would be the 4 way u made a while ago with a smart minecart system below

If you were to stack flying minhines on top of eachother so there is a wall of minecarts? Wall moves from top to bottom so any missed falls in the carts below

What about using a fast engine (e.g. your 3.3 m/s engine) to achieve the sync with minecarts and waterlogged rails (3.7 m/s)? Additional velocity disparity could be tackled by sending minecarts a little later (and doing the same on the way back).

What about combining the farms and having rails underneathe at a 90degree to the flying machines that get triggered when the flying machine dock at the end of their hatvest picking any sugarcane up off the floor?
