My arm chair expertise, from following many YT eventers and their lessons is 1) get a strong, consistent canter 2) easier for the horse if you jump over in 2-point -- easier on their back and maybe that makes you rock more with their movement? 3) practice straightness 4) trot polls are just as good for developing the horses' core muscles :) Willow really looks like he likes jumping and you are much stronger and better at it than you think, imho. Thanks for being brave and taking us along :)

Willow seems to like it ,trying going in two point just as you are going over the jump , supposedly you sit deep in the canter and as he goes over the jump let that impulsion put you into two point over the jump ,which keeps you off gis back use a neck strap and press your hands into the side of his neck for more balance until you learn how to balance on a jump , you really aren't as bad as you think you are 😊😊❤❤

OMG!! Karen I am in AWE of you!!!! I’m freaking terrified of jumping! (Although have secret dreams of doing a xc course! 😂) You did amazingly well, and you blooming well can jump!! Those last few, when they had gone up a bit you both looked so smooth and fluid over them. Willow clearly loved it and has a cracking jump on him. How about a spot of working hunter with him in the future?
@KarenBadrick12 ай бұрын
Thank you so much 😊 Jumping scares me half to death 😭 I always worry about falling off I’m sure you will definitely get round a cross country course 😊 Yes I think we will have to try some working hunter next year to change things up for him and keep him ticking over during the summer when his ridden shows die down xx

Willow is definitely the type of horse I liked jumping. He definitely did enjoy his jumps he did. You was quite good at jumping those jumps the one little tip I would suggest is that you give a bit more with your hands. When I had jumping lessons I was always taught to reach towards the horses ears to make sure that I never accidentally caught the mouth of the horse but that may have changed now. Keep riding forwards after you have just jumped to try and provent the horse from stopping reaching his head down also riding forward after the jump will teach the horse to not learn to stop as soon as he jumped and keep moving forward and not suddenly slow down or stop after the jump to make sure that the horse doesn't just lose energy after a fence.

@ I was! but it was either show in the flat classes with a fab pony 100% true to type and nearly perfect conformation BUT others were 'flashier' than her (she was also buckskin). we went to a show and i entered the novice workers, the judge LOVED her and even tho we got eliminated he pulled us back in the ring and told us that she would win hoys one day.. i was also terrified but after lots of lesions we got to hoys!! xx

Hi Karen, it's Deb here, rubber wall mats, leg yielding etc. Anyway I always watch you but rarely comment but you need helpful advice with Willow and his way of going in the show ring. Watch your new jumping video and see how much better he is going in the snaffle, he is not behind the bit nor overbent, he was also much better when he went showing in the snaffle bridle with you and Lewis, I wanted to speak with you then. The bit with your double bridle is too much for him, do you have to ride him in the double, is it required? I know nothing about showing, which is why I ask. If it's necessary to ride in double then please consider an easier bit such as shorter shanks (curb) and plastic bit piece. You can buy bits now where you can change the mouth pieces, sorry I can't remember what they're called, but this is kindly suggestion, watch your jump video and you will see what I mean. He also did a lovely bit of extended trot in that video too. Anyway I wish you and yours all the best, take care Deb
@KarenBadrick12 ай бұрын
Hi Deb Thank you for your message I think I have found a new riding instructor and hope to start with her after Christmas Technically you can ride at affiliated shows in a snaffle but judges usually look at you as being a novice, I’m pretty sure I do have his first Pelham we ever used somewhere at the yard, it has the same mouth piece as this snaffle, so will try him in that again and see how he goes xx
@DeborahKoehorst2 ай бұрын
Oh that's good , I hope the new instructor works out well for you and hopefully you can find your original bit and look forward to hearing how he goes in it, but I do have a flexible plastic bit with curbs if you would like to try it, but obviously you would need to let me know the size of Willow's mouth, I don't use it at all because I lost my dear Softabear 8 years ago, it's a one off as I had it made for him, you can have it if it's the right size, I can send it in the post, I live in bloody Cornwall! It's up to you, I would be very happy for dear Willow to have it. Take care Deb
