For people who have been rope jumping for years, try turning the rope in the opposite direction of your natural direction. For weeks, you will be surprised how difficult it is, but It feels amazing as your brain tells your body to develop new neurons.

Yea, jumping rope in reverse at first was challenging, but after enough practice, like anything, becomes second nature. I jump with weighted ropes, and the first thing I notice while jumping in reverse is the activation of different back muscles than jumping normally.
@jakemccoy3 күн бұрын
@@bluespiral4678 Yes, I describe it as learning to jump rope all over again. Forget about any tricks. Merely going in reverse is the challenge. All the muscles are pretty tense. Eventually, relaxation comes. Then tricks can come.
@bluespiral46783 күн бұрын
@jakemccoy I personally wouldn't go as far as saying reverse jumping by itself is like learning to jump rope all over again. It took me a lot longer to learn the 180 and 360 jumps than reverse rope jumps. Now translating most if not all regular jump rope tricks to reverse, now that, I'll give to you in terms of learning to jump rope all over again.

The last time I jumped was about 9 weeks ago. I was playing basketball, I was careless that day. I didn't warm up, and I had been particularly sedentary that week. I ended up with a ruptured achilles tendon (from pushing myself forward to run, not from jumping). I'm 27 years old, and I've already had a good history of injuries, when I recover from this I want to be able to play basketball without having to worry about getting injured, I need to build a more flexible, strong and coordinated body. I hope to never get injured again

About a month ago I was diagnosed with Piriformis Syndrome. Basically, there is a (Sciatic) nerve that handles your legs' 15% control whenever you step forward or to a forward when you step while running. One way of dealing with the pen is that, you need to walk with your heels up. The moment you hit the heels in you step forward in a very wrong way, you are going to feel it not so great. I cannot jog anymore, but luckily I can do jumps. But, no matter what I must not land on or use heels. In a way jumping has helped a lot. I feel lighter on my feet now from when I was using heels to step forward. You really feel like you are just doing less effort to go somewhere. So to the guys who are not aware of this syndrome and are not victim of it yet, jump... at one place. Keep it easy, keep it simple, keep it manageable. Stay Healthy everyone. Happy New Year.

I'm in my 30's now and I have recently started trying to get back into it, and I managed to strain my lower back. It has been a long process trying to get my agility back without injury, I have to go a whole lot slower than I want to. But I am hoping to keep jumping until I am an old man. I started practicing basketball again at 65 years old after not playing for 43 years. A couple of months in, I started to spontaneously leave the ground for some of my shots. A year later I'm jumping further and higher. I like basketball because it is so playful. I run backwards in S curves while doing round the worlds or halos with the ball. And yes, basketball does involve skipping, as does Gridiron Football and International Futbol. I think of the single skip during a sprint in a game as analagous to the flying change of lead on a cantering horse.

Guys, there is a really simple, powerful exercise you can start doing right now: *jumping jacks* You can move on to jumping rope if you like, or just stick to jumping jacks. With jumping jacks; you don't need to buy anything, they give you all of the benefits listed in this video, and you don't have to simultaneously work on coordination while strengthening your feet. It's easy, it's fun, and it gives you that springing *power* that you're looking for. *Just do some right now. This is the sign you're looking for; get started right now*

I am not some world class athlete or anything but I still feel 20 years old and all of my joints feel perfect (aside form some elbow tendonitis I got in my 20s from one arm chins and ignoring pain like an idiot). Another great thing is just playing with your dog. Run, stop, bound, change directions on a dime, roll, fall, tumble, wrestle. Just move spontaneously. EDIT: things like the Clean and Jerks and Snatches feel like a great thing to do also and I do them all the time although I use kettlebells now because they feel easier on my shoulders and wrists and I am not trying to be some super beast do can squat snatch a house (good for you if you are though!).
