JumpStart Animal Adventures (2002, HD)

JumpStart Animal Adventures is a 3D PC Game that was released on April 22, 2002 in the United States. It was also released in the UK on August 16, 2002 with the title Frankie: Animal Adventures, in France on December 20, 2002 with the title Frankie: Drôle d'Animaux, in Germany (unknown release date, sometime in the year 2002 possibly) with the title Frankie Große Tierwelt, and in Sweden on August 4, 2004 with the title Lek och Lär Vilda djur. The game was also distributed with Chick-Fil-A kids' meals in 2007. The game focuses on nature, animal, and habitat concepts for children ages 4 & up.
In this game, Frankie (from JumpStart First Grade with a new design and voice) starts an Animal Habitat Contest for children. The contest consists of sending children out into various habitats and filling out contests sheets with the challenges they must complete in learning about animals. The winner of the contest will be clarified an official habitat explorer by Frankie and JumpStart and receive a certificate as proof of their completion.
CJ Frog's nephews and nieces: Molly, Polly, Wolly, Tad, Chad, and Wart discover about the contest while flipping through a JumpStart habitat magazine. The tadpoles then convince their Uncle CJ and Edison to enter them in the contest and help them win. The player is also (indirectly) invited to come along and help. Using CJ's All-Over-Rover (AOR), the player can choose to explore four habitats: Temperate Forest, Tide Pool, Rain Forest, and the Savannah. Once the player chooses their habitat, one of the tadpoles will accompany the player and explore the habitat with them. Frankie will then give you your contest sheet for the habitat that can be filled out while exploring.
When exploring the habitats, the player can interact with and learn about the various animals that they see. The animals when clicked on will talk to the player and tell them more about them. Some animals after informing the player about them will let the player play a fun activity. The player earns points by filling out the contest sheet and by playing the activities that are present in each habitat. These points can be redeemed later on for stickers. There are also various songs and music videos that play throughout the game that help the player learn more about the animals or habitats. After the player completes the contest sheet for the habitat they will receive a printable arts and crafts project as their reward. After all contest sheets are filled out the player will then be challenged to play an Animal Smarts Game to earn more points as a reward for winning. After the player is done with the game, they will receive their certificate and the habitats will reset and can be explored again.

Oh MAN this thing takes me back! I remember owning this game when I was a kid, and I played it religiously! As someone who had and still has a fascination for the animal kingdom, I'd say this game does a solid job of representing it for being for little kids. Sure, some of the facts are kinda basic, but for a kid's first foray into wildlife, I'd say they did a good job making it interesting. Good premise for a little kid to partake in, fairly decent voice acting, and FMV that's not half bad for the time and budget. The gameplay is also surprisingly diverse, going from point and click, to rock em sock em crabs, to what can be best described as freeform Pacman with the elephants. On top of that, the thing has musical numbers, and for the most part, they're pretty good too, with favorites including Echolocation, Regeneration, Symbiotic Harmony and Hey Little Sister. It does have one minor annoyance; despite bringing em up, there's no sign of any desert or Arctic/Antarctic habitats used in the final game. I always found that to be kinda false advertising, since they even went outta their way to bring up a desert regular, the camel! Then again, I don't hold it against them too much as: 1. Like I said, for a kid's first foray into wildlife, it does its job well on its own. 2. And more importantly, I figured the issue was just a lack of time; I have no idea what the production history was like, and for all I know, it could have been their equivalent to Toy Story 2's development. But overall, I'd say this is definitely worth about 8.5 Symbiotic Harmonies outta 10.

I remember this game i wish they could include animals in this Temerate forest: bald eagle, bullfrog, opossum Tidepool: seagull, pelican, shrimp Rainforest: tapir, capybara, fruit bat, hummingbird Savannah: ostrich, hyena, dung beetle, crocodile I wish the impalas would be an alternative for the zebra/wildebeest game

As a kid. I always wondered why we didn't get a desert habitat level featuring Tad and Wart? That always confused me. Cause I saw it on the game's help guide.

There's no clear answer why it wasn't included but more than likely there was either not enough production funds to make another level or it was canceled in order to finish up the game and get it released. It seems they must have made good progress in making the Desert and Arctic habitats though because they mentioned them in thee intro which means they were about to include them.

I'm sure they must have either been rushed to get the game released and couldn't go back and re-edit the game and manuals or couldn't re-edit because it would cost money to change everything (they must have printed everything before scrapping the habitat levels). That was more than likely a result of poor planning when producing of this game.
