In this video, we're looking at the Junctek KG140F amp metre and running some tests and comparisons with the Victron Smart Shunt. A lot of people know that Victron makes excellent equipment and are often regarded as one of the best out there. We wanted to test a competitor product that's considerably cheaper to see if it's any good and whether we'd consider using it.
We've had problems with Junctek in the past, so we're keen to see how this one works.

I have tested this junctek shunt with my fluke meter and it was spot on I also compared it with my old bmv 602s victron shunt and both unit were spot on

Good review guy’s. I think u can 0 calibrate the Amps for shunt. Q) being able to use a relay for hi &/or low cut off/on, this shunt could also be used as a ‘Solar Dump’, so when ur batteries are full, midday for me, I could heat some water for a shower instead of using gas all the time, does this sound do-able with this device? Cheers

Thanks for the video. Is there some type of housing that can be used to mount the screen? With the cable going in from the back, it'll be difficult to mount the Juntek screen flush without using some type of box for it.

We have not found one and generally make a housing bespoke for the situation.

Question, does the Junctek app work if we don't plug/use the display module?

so you wire onto the negative terminal... But if you have a bank in parallel which battery does it go on, the first or last?

Yes, you should put the shunt on the negative line. For a bank of batteries, it depends on your set up but I'd normally wire it so you have a single wire going to your bank which carries the charge/draw and I'd put the shunt on that line.

Does the Junctek save/keep the graphing data, or does it delete it like the Victron does every time you open the app? (I hate the victron 712 smart for that) I prefer to see the history of what's happening when I'm not around... Means I can come back and check what's used the battery over time.

Ah is not a quantity of energy as it is.... and should not be used, kWh is the proper unit to use.

The range on the Victron Smartshunt is really really bad. You have to be about 3 FT from it or else you lose connections :(

Interesting. We've not noticed a problem, but worth looking into. We'll do some tests!

My one gripe with your video is you're simply not prepared to present anything. Kind of like a teacher walking into the room without preparing a lesson plan. The shunt does have mounting plates and spacers. You need to program in the parameters for the battery. It has overvoltage and undervoltage protection if it's wired through a relay, just to name a few things you neglected to research. Overall a really poor presentation and a thumbs down from this viewer. If you want to present a video kindly spend some time educating yourself about the product you are supposedly doing a review about.
