Since this is the only V2 video up on KZbin right now I'll leave this here - I just got my V2 after being, like everyone else, disappointed with the v1 (although I do like it for bass and guitar). The V2 is killer. I absolutely love the sound. Every problem that the v1 had when it came to synths (lfo speed/depth, not being made for synths/resonance/distortion, no actual stereo sound, the general distance from what a real juno sounds like) has all been fixed. Good job tc, the V2 is SO much better.

A re-worked faithful recreation of the slower lfo of the original Juno 60. Thanks TC, I'll be getting one :)
@TaklaMakanMusic
@TaklaMakanMusic 3 жыл бұрын
The version one didn't have a stereo chorus output. It created the stereo effect by some EQing and some phase trickery. The new version 2 seems to have a true stereo output as the original Roland, but they've still left companders in there which the Juno-6 never had. Companding seriously effects the sound on more complex input signals, such as chords from a synth.

This sounds much better than the V1, but for a V2, they had the chance to do better. Dips still hidden behind screws for one thing. There are maybe 3 or 4 vintage Roland/Boss products that are like 98% accurate, lush, and satisfying as the original 106/60 chorus. Maybe I'm in the minority, but those put a smile on my face. And at least of those old gems are not too well known and can still be acquired for under $300 US.

Got mine yesterday, sounds great! Lives on my desk, takes a 9v battery which is handy. Using it with my synths/guitars and also great for feeding vocals through to thicken them up in the background. When set to ‘synth’ dip switch, the level really drops when engaging to foot switch though, is the normal? Could I just use guitar mode and lower my volume level

@ghost mall _"Yeah, there’s no practical reason those settings couldn’t be made available on the top of the unit. My guess is cost"_ Yep, like you say, cost, the case is identical, putting the switches inside saves a load of retooling, they can just run existing stock cases . . . got v2 today, takes less than 60 seconds to open and switch, no awkward fits or difficult alignments, take the 4 little screws out and it almost comes apart in your hands by itself, click your switches and put the screws back in, it really was a lot easier and quicker than I thought it would be. I was going to mod it to bring the switches to the outside, but I'm not even sure I need to now.
@davelordy
@davelordy 2 жыл бұрын
@ghost mall _"if they’ve solve the core problem which was the sound"_ I know this is subjective, but we know the sound of the v1, that's available for everyone to listen to online, I own a v1 and found it very underwhelming, not just as a Juno Chorus emulation, but even just as a standard chorus it wasn't too impressive . . . but to me the v2 sounds absolutely amazing, especially the stereo out, a hundred times better than the v1, keys sound amazing through it . . . it's so good (like I say, subjective, but to me...) that I doubt I'll ever use my v1, not that I really did anyway, so the poor old v1 is looking like it's going to be a donor case, I'll probably use it to drill and mod, and then fit the v2 guts into it with the speed and keys/guit switches on the outside . . . and still have the v2 case in new condition !

I'm glad you've done some work to revise this. The LFO rate on the original is ridiculous.. it should have been called the Trem-o-saurus. I know this project was started before even the Boog D came out.. so I don't think the need from the end user for accuracy was quite so clear for TC yet.. so fingers crossed for the reworked circuit in this iteration Does the compander circuitry get bypassed when the pedal is in "synth mode"?
@mattg082

I bought one and as weird as it sounds…I just use the slow 1 setting on synths in mono. Then go through a Roland Jazz Chorus with the Chorus engaged in stereo with a slight mix. It gives me a beefed up synth sound on mono synths with the pedal going in. And then the amp dialed in does the stereo work. It sound redundant, but the pairing works very nicely! For guitar playing, I’m still more in love with the Roland JC sound of chorus on guitars. So I don’t use it too much there yet. I would though in a heartbeat if I didn’t have a chorus built into my amp that’s so good and iconic already. But for mono synths this pedal does the job in slow position. The level switch I found was better up all the way. As it drops big time from clean to pedal way too much for me.

Del-Verb stereo Outputs to DAW - Focusrite Audio I/F. All preset sounds are good, except for notable volume drop when June-60 v2 is enabled (pedal switch On). Have watched several YT vids and no /slightest volume decrease when v2 pedal switched on. I have to say, the June 60 now works pretty good in stereo with my Behrjnger Pro-1 and Boog D. I also added a cheap TC delay and a reverb. Maybe it's not a Juno 60 chorus, but it works damn good with my synth stabs. It can start to pump with a really strong LFO effect with some sounds. I just don't use it with hard lead sounds. The old TC June 60 works pretty well as a mono to stereo converter in my setup. When I first used it, it sounded like trash for some reason I could not reproduce. Since then it works fine and creates interesting stereo phasing. A slower LFO would be really helpful to make it better. Not sure I need a MKII.

I kind of want to get this and immediately mod it so all the internal switches are located externally and give it stereo outputs. Maybe I'll use push button switches too. I get why TC/Behringer would opt to put them internally to keep the price down with cheaper switches and keep the classic aesthetic look alive... but judging by the comments you might have made the wrong choice. I'd rather pay more for a feature packed pedal than need to buy a special cable to use with it. I also hate it when switches are labelled guitar/keyboard instead of instrument/line level. As primarily a guitar player, I could see running it in an amp effects loop occasionally and needing to set it to the misnomered "keyboard" line setting. Unless it isn't line level, but something else?

Love you guys, but you lost me at internal dip switches. Hate that - if I have to take the pedal off my board, unplug it, remove the backplate, flip switches, replace the backplate, plug it back in, in order to hear if I like the difference or not? Nah, fam: not for me. Keys/Guitar, sure - though I'd still rather it be external.

@@NielsBeier Oh, for sure. But pedals interact with other elements in the signal chain. So I usually want to hear it in context. And it can be kind of awkward to do. Always complains... First of all the v1 is an AWESOME sounding deep chorus FOR GUITAR... the only problem is that it is too fast; like many old vintage pedals that have issues but sound great, you can outlive that. You love the ehx mistress with it's awful noise. Now the V2 is to make happy those mf of keyboardists...moreover it has those useful dip switches to slow down the LFO speed. Yes, they could have put them outside for easy access, but they meant the pedal to "set and forget". We all know that in the end we use just a bunch of pedals with the same exact setting all the time even though we have a billion pedals with a billion switches. Be serious people!

@@davelordy is it perhaps the one where you play with the internal trimmers? If so is just a waste of time since the trimmers mostly play a role on the depth, so if you feel the rate has been slowed down is because the depth is decreased; and imo the beauty of this pedal is its thickness/depth.

@@lovecraftmusic8717 _"is it perhaps the one where you play with the internal trimmers?"_ Yeah, I only briefly watched it before, but just took another look and you're right it's not controlling the speed, just backing off the depth, so not really a solution.

The pedal has 4 settings but you only get two at a time without opening it up? How did anyone involved with this think this was a good idea? Why not provide access to all four from the front-panel? @@RobertFisher1969 yes I did see the internal dip switches, and as synth player the first thing I'm going to do once i get one is open it up and change the operating level. Yes, it's unfortunate that you can't change the rate without opening it; but you said 4 settings... and having 1 and 2 both pressed is a combination, meaning there is in fact "4 settings" , as you mentioned without opening it. Having both operations on or off, are technically different settings. What I plan on doing is figuring out which operation, for my signal flow, sounds better "fast" or "slow" and if both of them are different, having both operations with different rates, when both are enabled it will appear as a different rate or tone between both operations equalizing, meaning it is actually more versatile than the chorus effect on the original roland juno-60. In my mind, I would think of it as a mod to what the original circuit would sound like.

@@RobertFisher1969 I totally understand your point. As a guitarist, I'm sure this is frustrating or, at the very least, suspect. And I would say there might be a quality issue between the modern "TC electronics" (now owned by inmusic / music group / music tribe) and the previous TC Helicon- which made (from my limited experience) solid products. As someone coming from the synth side of things, I'm always happy to see greater support for line level operations and I welcome that bit, with enthusiasm.... but it is unfortunate that the rate can't be knob-adjusted. I imagine between the two points (on the circuit board), it would be (relatively) easy to modify. There's just been a lot of hate of this particular product from the guitar community so I, as someone from the, I guess, "synth community", wanted to voice a counterpoint. From my perspective it's nice not to have to use either a DI-box or a phase-shifting level-matcher just as a go-between to use my EHX pedals, you know. Also always happy to pay less than a hundred dollars for true-analog circuitry (that isn't from a DIY kit or something you have to solder or wire yourself)

@limelight81 I haven't looked it up but intribe / uli behringer's bread and butter these days seems to be opening up old gear and faithfully recreating circuits. The schematics might not be on point but the output voltage, range and sound are always within the ballpark. Sometimes that's how they can get around copyright, by using different paths to produce the same (or very similar) out put- and if for good measure, they might tack on some extra functionality or mods in order to further protect them from copyright. On the synth side, often times it's just adding midi functionality, if the original unit was just voltage controlled. In the case of the juno-60, I think it's safe to say intribe has cracked one open and managed to accurately replicate it one way or another. I don't always agree with uli's business practices, but he's really done a great job putting classic previously unobtainable gear in the hands of broke assholes like myself. On the guitar side of things, a lot of people forget even boutique pedal companies will purchase bucket brigade chips from intribe, as they seem to be the only ones producing them currently, as the reticon and Panasonic ones seem to be more and more difficult to get a hold of.
