On the JHS 3 Chorus you guys had the vibrato setting on the whole time. The toggle switch in the up position is from vibrato, and down is chorus. That's why Pete thought it sounded weird. FYI.
@iceman101293 жыл бұрын
Thats JHS's fault. Don't have a switch that is blank in the up position and "vibe" in the down position. On a chorus pedal, blank should be chorus. More so dont name a setting the name of a completely different type of effect. So regardless of them getting it wrong, JHS got it wrong when they made the casing.

Other people have comment about these issues already, but when the Small Clone gets "demo'd" at 15:20, the JHS pedal is the one activated, and JHS pedal is also in vibrato mode! I love this series and think it's such a good way to compare pedals, but also mistakes like that kind of undermines the whole point--maybe now someone won't buy a Small Clone because of how it "sounds" here, even though they are actually listening to a JHS chorus in vibrato mode. The behringer 808 clone is epic for the money... josh at jhs a/b’d it against an original vintage 808 and it was honestly the most indiscernible difference I’ve heard between any TS style pedal lol

Personally I think people should have a my first pedalboard using Behringer, they have a single row($179Usd) and double row board($220Usd) with power supply and patch cables included and are in their own hardshell case - So TBH that is a great deal, Almost all the Behringer Pedals are $25 and you can get them on sale for $18 sometimes. I think I priced a full set $300Usd+Pedal board which puts you at around $500 grant it you are missing a couple effects, but when you are at the early stages I don't think you need them.

I think when Pete said the Julia sounded like it had too much clean signal, it was because the mix knob was at 12 which meant it wasn’t full chorus so he was right.

This one really solidified my choice for Angel Wing as the emphasis on effect chorus. So cheap but so lush and juicy. My other all around choice (in my rig) that is good for doubling and leads was Boss CH-1. The Boss Waza was classic boss in this one as well, they are just so in tune that you get the effect and it's enough but not too much and it just sounds nice in every setting. Strymon has that studio quality thing where it'd be great background effect chorus. It sounds very much like chorus but sits a bit back with your clean signal right there. Small clone was very different, almost crazy, but it had a thing going on. Very unique effect so I'd say worth it as well. Some of them on the other hand felt like they barely had chorus even when there was a lot of it and the clean signal was just pushing forward, which I didn't like. It wasn't a good background chorus effect and it wasn't a good effect for effect either. The Behringer was entirely unimpressive. Very underwhelmed when it was turned on. Julia almost begged the question of is there an effect as well. It was noticeable that it was on, but it didn't cause any reaction. Surprised to hear that when I've noticed it being mighty popular. Probably what Pete said, you tweak it to different things beyond just chorus.
@andrewsnee3 жыл бұрын
The Julia is hard to set because it's so tweakable. Set the lag at three, the wave form to triangle, and you wouldn't be saying it doesn't sound like a chorus. Honestly, you should take a little time to try to get a similar sound from the pedals. This one and the JHS, too.

These are fun videos. I hope none of the pedal makers get offended as it all depends on the context - which guitar, amp and what Pete is listening for. I personally thought the Walrus pedal was the best and I really like the EHX though it was more of a Vibrato with not much direct sound getting through, probably what the original it's based on was like.

Of course the ones they choose as best are the most expensive ones. All the great records many of us love from the 70’s didn’t have any of these very expensive boutique pedals, and yet they achieved great tones and creativity. People have gone mad with everything boutique. Good job on video.

Sucks the lag knob on the Julia got overlooked. It’s exactly what Pete was looking to change but because capt didn’t know that, it just sat there sounding bad.

I also wanna point out the captain had it on the sine wave, not triangle wave. I prefer using the sine wave, but it would sound more like other choruses on triangle!

Chorus is simple, rate n depth only others just and extra features. If its sounds bad on the 2 settings it is bad. Just like speaker no such thing as need to breakup etc..if its sounds bad it is bad. Even it is break in will not drastically change everything
@Artec6193 жыл бұрын
@@Mwhbmnabjms The fact that you'd rather have every pedal being simple doesn't mean all of them should be. I'm not a huge fan of the Julia but it's nice to see that it has more options that allow it to sound different. Yeah, the CE-2 sounds good, but it's only THAT sound, which probably gets boring pretty quickly.
@RechargingBatteries3 жыл бұрын
The captain did know, but you can't change it because then it gives away the price of the pedal, which is the game
@Mwhbmnabjms3 жыл бұрын
@@Artec619 you got me wrongly, what I meant is other than the 2 knob rate n depth is just an extra features , it will not make a huge difference. If u trying out chorus pedal to set it rate n depth is the important part..if its sounds bad then it is bad. The extra features don’t make the huge difference. The main sound is important not the extra knob features.

GREAT REVIEW GUYS !!! No surprises there..Boss set the bar for stompboxes...I love their chorus. Reminds me of my old Jazz Chorus 60. Killer! All controversy aside, Behringer make some righteous pedals for not too much money. The plastic case isn't a deal-breaker really for me, I had an old MXR phaser housed in a crappy plastic enclosure and that thing stood shoulder to shoulder with Boss and others in their Zamac enclosures for ruggedness.
