One of the most underestimated great divas of opera. I saw her in Semiramide and the most unforgettable I Puritani. I also think her Lucia in that mad Paris Opera version has to be seen to be believed staged by Andrei Şerban and designed by William Dudley it’s insane but she literally goes for it. I happen to love it! Thanks as always Lohengrin, you truly are the opera Knight.

Great and we'll known from opera lovers. In Paris she sang a lot and remember to go to buy tickets at 4 in the morning at the opera comique.
This is the zenith of her art. An absolutely underrated mastersinger. Her technique and top extension are breathtaking.

I'm one of those that was there from near the very beginning. June was always spectacular and I never heard her give a performance anything less than excellent. Her Bellini was DIVINE, her Donizetti Superb and Verdi exceptional ~ the voice was GORGEOUS in the house - BRAVA!

Thanks. Anderson was very consistent, always in good voice, never let the public down. She said she almost quit opera in the middle of her career because she felt she wasn't being appreciated. Cheers.

Absolutely true. She wanted to quit, didnt know what to do, or how to do things differently to please the business. Really sad. So many Roles where she was not cast like Trovatore, Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda. Its actually tragic, but i'm so glad we get to enjoy everything she did. Thank you, June!

@@gataca1976 She actually did sing Trovatore at the Met-how many times, I don’t know. Fille du regiment, as well. I think the big houses were overwhelmed by her talent, intellect, and personality. It’s as if audiences loved her while she and the companies clashed.

She reminds me a lot of prime-Gruberova, but with a plusher, healthier sound and none of the scopping of the later. I just swoon when I her those sequential, legato-scales and fioratura in this repertoire, and Anderson sings them so hypnotically.

Right off the bat that diminuendo! Jealous of you for having heard her live. Present day there are not many opportunities left to hear truly great opera singers live. Im lucky enough to have been able to hear dolora zajick live as amneris. Probably the only time I will ever experience live a singer of the caliber of the golden age titans. Unless the opera world takes a dramatic shift.

I did not know Gulnara had a sister. Be that as it may, this opera comes 9 years after Verdi's first opera Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio), and the composer was busy with other projects when he set eyes on Byron's poem The Corsair in 1844. There were a few kerfuffles with this opera, as well as I masnadieri, I due Foscari, and Macbeth. The plot of Il Corsaro is quite ridiculous (a Greek island with pirates, slaves, a eunoch, the Pasha of Coron???), but I do enjoy certain parts. Miss Anderson shines in Gulnara's scena. I love the aria "Non so le tetre immagini" (Medora). Back to Nicki Minaj, née Onika Tanya Maraj.

Lohengrin. O Did she ever perform Roberto Devereux? With that voice and her looks she would be ideal as the Queen Elizabeth 1. Great post thank you my friend. When a Soprano sings A Verdi opera that's not very well known Etc it's a sign that they can sing anything. Arnold Bourbon Amaral 🌿🌏🌎🌍🌹👴

Hi Arnold. I don't think Anderson's voice is big enough for Queen Elizabeth, as I think it's written for a Soprano Sfogato. She might struggle with the dramatic parts, as I think the character is quite vengeful and angry. Callas could have done it justice. I'm not sure if Anderson performed it. Few singers have tried.

My darling June ❤️ The great soprano of my youth. Her Puritani (and Beatrice) were the closest we've ever seen to perfection in Bellini - Spectacular! No, she did not perform in Roberto Devereux, only taking on one of the three queens; Anna Bolena in Pittsburgh which I sadly missed. She was without peer in Bellini, excellent in Rossini and spectacular in Donizetti. She understood bel canto and had a true style in her singing.
