Well that was 3 minutes and 52 seconds of my life that I happily spent watching this video. Think I’m gonna watch it again.

Noam Pikelny, I love you and want two things from you: any tab you've written down for Jim Thompson's horse and the opus number for the Scriabin that you play on the new PB record. Hope everything is well and that I get to be graced by your exceptional skills one day soon. Peace, banjo brother🖖🏽

Wow, what an awesome trio! I had only ever heard Doc Watson's version of this before (and tried to learn to play it on guitar). I love yours even more! And now i'm going to try to learn it on banjo, too. :-)

Hey, since when does a D-18 have a bound fingerboard? Is that a new neck on that beast?

That's a great guitar. 1960 D-18 fancied up early in its life by west coast luthier John Lundberg. New fb, original neck.

Hey Michael, Noam,& Brittany! I’m a fiddler/mando player. I’d like to improvise more with this tune. I’m used to seeing it in A. Is it in B here b/c it benefits Michael’s vocal, the guitar, or banjo more? If it benefits fiddle licks, why/how? Thx!

Hey Adam, thanks for listening! This is the only version in B that I know of. I like how it lays on guitar - using the open B string and having the IV chord be a low E. Also is a little better for my voice but it started as a guitar thing.

for my money and soul the only one in this trio that speaks to me rather than shows off how fast he can play and how many notes he can play is the woman. That's real fiddling -- not because of the quantity of notes or speed but the feeling behind it. Wow -- she makes me cry. She gets it. The boys are just making a lot of busy noise to impress the other boys. The girl is speaking to me. But who knows -- maybe she's a good liar. But I'll take her picking over the other two any day. "Jest cuz ya'll can play all them notes and play 'em faster n anyone else don't mean you gotta. That ain't what it's all about." Unless you're showing off for other musicians in some kind of little teenage boy pissing contest.

Friday night festival energy! We use to play like that for hours. Just add moonshine and you can find things in these tunes you never thought existed. Like riding a bike, slow is relaxing but riding fast creates a kind of tunnel where all your peripheral senses become heightened, a kind of relaxation takes place. It’s great!
