I can't access the relevant thread below to reply directly to anitasseo or Dave Wray but of course it is true that June was with Syd Barrett (throughout 1967) before Marc Bolan. This won't be news to a lot of people. Her own thoughts on it are documented. She worked as Pink Floyd's secretary, and Marc (as a big fan of Syd Barrett) used to hang out at the Blackhill office (according to Dave Gilmour). I think the Barrett influence is evident in his image, and some aspects of his early writing. So June was a very important partner for each of them, and a very concrete link between the two.

June loved Marc up till the day she died. Yes they fell for each other rather quickly, it does happen for people. I believe from everything I've heard and read about, Marc loved Gloria and June. I try not to pass judgement on their lives. No one really knows the truth but the three of them. I'm very intrigued by Marc's life, he was a talented genius. And yes I believe he done things to make it as far as he did at the time. Things happen for a reason. Then I see people bashing Gloria. I often wonder if it's because she was black. She was very talented as well. She lost the man she loved, and her signing career from that accident. She lost everything but the Son she had to Marc. Give the poor woman a break, she has been through enough. Had to raise her son in poverty alone, if it wasn't for David Bowie and his financial influence and I'm sure Marc's family's support he wouldn't been without anything. Rolan is a very talented person like his parents. Just let them be and enjoy the music and the man who made it. Stop trashing the people he loved. He is gone but his music lives on.

They wouldn't have had time to raise a child. All June ever did was do what was best for Marc and had his best interests at heart. Love. Destiny. Weird stuff, huh? He followed his path. Keep being mad about it but he lived his life. And I'm saying this as someone who has been in June's shoes.

Nope. June is the original.

June was really nice, but gone too soon, yet still, the other one who was drunk driving when marc bolan was killed beside her, hightailed back to the United States to avoid charges etc. How's that justice. Today you could face a sentence.

Is she saying she only knew him for 3 hours when he said he loved her, and she threw in her lot with him on that basis? Why were they sleeping on the Common? Is the beginning of this missing?
@shirleypena41339 жыл бұрын
+aitch dubbya At the beginning of Marc and June's relationship they had very little money. They could barely scrap together the 2 pounds weekly it cost for their tiny attic flat.

Totally true!

Marc was living at his mum and dad's at the time which was where they ate muesli I think. I suppose to be together they had to sleep in her van?
@MareShoop4 жыл бұрын
Susan Kirkland you’re correct, it’s in all the biographical books, they lived in the van for 4 days in Wimbledon common until they got the flat in Blenheim Crescent ( I think that was the cold water flat). They had to go to Tony Visconti’s flat for a hot shower once or twice a week.

Marc chose Gloria - people stop smoking meth and get over it ~
@alanstackhouse29395 жыл бұрын
Lol..Yep a very bad choice!
@chantelleadlington3 жыл бұрын
Marc didn't choose gloria though. Actually June was the one who left him and the truth is he was devastated about her leaving him, he wanted to be with June. T Rex Roadie, Mick O'Halloran said when June left, Marc called him upto his hotel room and 'cried like a baby' and was 'emotionally damaged by June leaving him. He never even got over June leaving him, he wanted to be with her again in 1977 and June has said herself in another interview that she and Marc would've got back together had he not died. She also said that Marc told her he wasn't happy with Gloria or 'the situation' as he put it.

He put a little glitter on his cheeks and so Bowie copied him?! Ok so he put glitter on his cheeks first but I don't see Bowie needing him at all. Yes, Bowie and all musicians-are influenced by others and then become the influencers. Sure they must of had an impact. The Who mentions them in 81 on "You Better You Bet"and Bowie mentions them in one of his songs. It's too bad they didn't have more success in the US.

+Ricky Rhoades Indeed..Bolan in turn was highly influenced by Elvis, Little Richard, Cliff Richard ,Keith Richard(s), Eddie Cochran and eventually a host of 60's artists ,prominently Dylan.. I wouldn't necessarily state _"he stuck his head out"_,but then, June's (bless her soul) recollections understandably might have been a bit biased.

Yeah, especially when Bowie released Space Oddity in July 1969 and Marc Bolan released "Ride a White Swan" as a single October 1970. This does not support him doing it first. I guess it's what he needed to tell himself as things were not going so well...

I believe the influence started with Lou reed, who wasn't putting make up on for show.......I would say syd Barrett was the first brit to put the eyeliner on....

Space Oddity was not a hit until 1973. It was Starman that broke Bowie.

Space oddity was a hit in 1969. It reached number 5 in the UK charts, after being used on the moon landing TV coverage.
