Totally, from what I understand, the change in air pressure that makes your ears pop is unbearable to toddlers. I wonder if it would be possible to make a small (portable) playpen nook with better pressure regulation for babies to rest in so they can be content and prevent this kind of hassle for everyone. The only other solution I can think of is to take Amtrak, but let's face it, not everyone has that kind of time to devote to travel, and even Amtrak can have ear-popping if you need to go across the Rockies or what have you. Eh. I'm sure plenty of people far smarter than myself have tried to find a solution, and the lack of one makes me think it's unfeasible for one or more reasons, so I suppose we're stuck with just dealing with it. Bleh.

Please take a few fo have a nice cup of chamomile, if you're still upset tomorrow, please accept my apologies. +Mr Dong: aaand... you're at it again. Don't think I defended June. Sympathised, perhaps, but my first kid simply slept or was breastfed through flights, so I admit I'm in a privileged position in that regard (the second was never flight-tested, but after a certain age I gather Phenergan has worked wonders on some fussy little people on long-haul flights. I'm not advocating it, but it was suggested by a very good doctor I know). Hey, I sympathised with the sneering woman who gave June attitude too, actually! You never know what stress others are going through and pray you'll just remember to remain empathetic and not flare up when someone else gets stroppy. A little sympathy goes a long way :) But you go on projecting, hon, with all those sweeping generalisations. Sounds like you've got me all worked out - regardless of evidence. Have fun with that!

@robertcartier5088
@robertcartier5088 6 жыл бұрын
Nope. Let them pay more: Exclusive Baby Friendly Flights, just $50 more. Once a day, smaller plane, ONLY for parents with kids under 3. It won't work for all destinations but it's a start! And Free chill-pill for kids over 3 who need to fly with the rest of us... Ok, that last bit is harsh. lol
@dontbefatuousjeffrey2494
@dontbefatuousjeffrey2494 6 жыл бұрын
actually, +M. Cartier, that's one of the most practical (and only real!) suggestions I've seen on here. Like the movie sessions for parents with "babes in arms". Price would have to be a reasonable proportionate percentage of an adult ticket, but given the probability of smaller numbers carried on such a specific flight, it might even free up more seats for parents laden with children and their requirements! I'm not even that opposed to the free "chill-pill" as an option (there are valid mild sedation/travel sickness meds for kids) - I expect the legality of providing it would be tricky though! When I was flying as a child an activity pack, ready supply of something to chew on (for ear problems) and in-flight radio were enough for me... Interactive in-flight entertainment is good these days. Let's face it though: long-haul flights in coach usually force us close together for prolonged periods and we all need a bit of patience to deal with them. I say grab your noise-cancelling earphones, a great book and a healthy dose of sympathy for human frailty and settle in for the joys of sleep-deprivation and jet-lag ;)

+Chrissiola: don't know if it helps at all in a discussion about discrimination and air-carriers, but last I heard at least 4 airlines were selling "quiet zones" - usually where kids under 12, often, aren't permitted - and Malaysia Airlines also has no kids permitted at all on at least some First Class services. So, it's already a thing: right?
@Birdhism
@Birdhism 6 жыл бұрын
Since this can never be enacted without it blowing up in the Airline's face, I guess all we can do is shoot ENTITLED parents like her dirty looks. (Let her come at me! I sass back). I have empathy for the kid. Kids exists, teething is awful, and kids get noisy. I DON'T get parents who feel it's their RIGHT to be awful and aggressive just because THEIR kid is making them and everyone around them miserable. If I decided that I really needed to bring an angry badger on the plane (maybe I needed to do it to save a species, or something), it's still my burden to bare if it messes itself, makes irritating noises, and pisses off the rest of the passengers. I have no right to get mad at the badger's victims. My critter, my responsibility, and I'd need to humble myself and apologize because that's the CONSIDERATE thing to do. If this lady showed remorse, like "Oops, I shouldn't have done that, but man I was stressed." Ok. But there's zero remorse. We need more people like the nice folks that handed out treats and ear plugs to the passengers because their kid was teething, not people like this lady.

MrChrisMDong, Actually, it should be closer to Rah-fah-el. There is no 'EYE' sound in there at all, except perhaps in a few of your more ignorant-sounding american accents. So before calling anyone dumb, you should probably know that. (Y'all know who you are... don't all get offended at once, now.) But seriously, my take on this is that she has every right to call herself whatever she wants... And, my rights include smirking when she corrects my proper pronunciation of the word. I think it's hilarious to act offended when I 'mispronounce' someone's name and they are the ones who insist on using those sounds incorrectly. But no, I'm the one who should know better? Ha! Stein? St-een? St-yne? -- don't know, don't care. You want it to sound different? No problem -- spell it differently! Pretty simple, one would think. Gee, I wonder how many times she had to tell them to get her name right. ___________________________________________________________________ Hi, I'm not a grammar-Nazi... but I sometimes play one on KZbin. ;-)
@robertcartier5088
@robertcartier5088 6 жыл бұрын
MrChrisMDong Interesting how aside from the "eye" sound, which is still doubtful (The only Italians using a y sound there are probably American-Italians who never actually lived in Italy and didn't learn Italian there), you seem to be agreeing with what I was saying about pronouncing things the way they are spelled. Or did you not read that far? Anyway, as far as being a 'douche', or an 'asshole', let me just remind you who it was that was calling another user dumb for just pointing out that Colbert was saying it properly. And you used cartoon characters to make your point... It's a little late for you to start playing the reasonable one now, don't you think? LOL
@robertcartier5088
@robertcartier5088 6 жыл бұрын
MrChrisMDong, Did we not agree, above, that spelling should have a huge effect on how words are sounded? And here you are with a tasty confection that is spelled differently... And you seem to believe it vindicates your notion that the original spelling we argued about should sound the same...? Huh? Then, in another questionable move, you send me to a website where an English-speaker is, again, assuming that there should be an 'EYE' sound in Raphael. Sorry, I don't buy it. I don't know why you are trying to pronounce the letters A and E as if they belonged to the same syllable. You can dip-yur-thong all you like, there are 3 syllables in Raphael, and none of them includes both an A and an E! Therefore, your Y sound to propel the EL sound at the end is nonexistent. There is no good reason for it. I will not cherry-pick from some wiki... Instead, I submit into evidence the fact that many cultures will even use an umlaut on the E to show it should be a separate sound. Don't you see? Say, are you deaf as WELL as dumb and blind? (Until now there had been no personal insults in my posts... -- But since you can't help yourself, I thought I'd reciprocate just a little.)

@robertcartier5088
@robertcartier5088 6 жыл бұрын
There's another one of your assumptions gone astray... You said, "The only language that uses umlauts are Germanic ones" -- That statement is false! French, not a Germanic language, uses the umlaut... As if they'd gone out of their way to prove you're just full of bullshit. How are you gonna dip and thong you way out of that little lie, Smart-Ass? You seem to think you are teaching someone here... I too can copy and paste from Wikipedia. I read those exact words, in that exact order, describing what a dip thong was at the wiki page... Impressive. Having worked many years in one of the most diverse cities in the world, I can tell you that not all umlauts are created equal. The umlaut, as used in Raphaël, is over the E, not your weird combo letter that nobody uses anymore, but a single letter. It affects the letter it is attached to and stresses the need to pronounce that letter (or following syllable containing that letter) separately from the previous syllable. No bridge effect is needed, nor desired. And the candy does NOT "merely has an extra syllable at the end", it also has a double F instead of the PH... Those are not designed to sound the same, dip-th-shit! --> Raffa, and Rapha are NOT the same! Nice try bullying your way into winning this argument. Didn't work.

I was recently on an overnight flight from Shanghai to Sydney. There were four babies/toddlers in the cabin and it was tag team screaming and crying for the whole nine hours. As soon as one would stop another would start up. I try to be patient but it was just pure hellish. Give parents with babies and toddlers their own screened off area. They will be happier and so will the rest of us.

MrTingles I first spotted her on the short-form cable satire they were on a few years ago, NTSF:SD:SUV, which could be pretty hilarious, so it tracks.
