I like the comments you get. What I will say is, you could go on for ever just in a small part of a layout adding scenic material and weathering but it is a balance between how many years you want to spend doing it versus the pleasure you get from the model. I am 56 and when I get to it I will need to fast track everything as I have no idea how many years I have to get to a point where I am happy with it, amongst my other projects. Very well done and great videos as always.

Hi, you’re just a spring chicken at 56! But you’re totally right in what you say. Some modellers spend years on a 6ft diorama need to end layout, adding details etc. I have 75ft of layout in circumference. And I don’t want to get to the point when by the time I finish the 4th end the first part needs done again as it’s worn out! Plus I want to do it right first time so I take my time. I love working that way. There is always new kits to detail your scene coming out from 3D printing companies etc, which I’ll add if I think it enhances the scene. But I’ve a lot more to build than the average layout. And when is a layout ever truly finished anyway!? Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for adding such a great comment. Cheers. Dave

Always great to catch up on what’s new at Dean Park. It was particularly interesting for me to see your new charity 66 running around. It looks, sounds and performs great. All for a good cause too. I’ve had a wee issue with the removable roof panel ‘vibrating’ on my model which causes an annoying ‘distortion’ when the sound is operational. It’s an intermittent but annoying niggle. I’m still trying to find a solution… until I do the application of a well placed finger applying light pressure to the roof panel will have to suffice.

Great update, david. Your scenery is coming together nicely now. Accurascale class 66 what awesome locomotive they have seen to have done a great job on the class. Thanks for the video update. I went to the DEMU Showcase Model Railway Exhibition yesterday and spoke to your good friends at westhillwagonworks, and Chris Bower mentioned your little jokes between you both 😂 take care dave.

Great informative video, regarding the Accurascale refurbished class 66 I feel engineering out the EM2 speaker for the lesser EM1 was a cost cutter so they could fit their own speaker which is EM1 derivative, the lighting up of the dashboard would have been a cool touch, the axle box issue was a manufacturing issue that should have been highlighted before being sold to customers, the lack of a BR blue large logo model is a surprise, overall it’s a good loco but until they produce a livery that I want I will give it a miss as I’m happy with my Hatton’s and Bachmann models, thanks for sharing.

The Modelscene bushes look good, I got some recently for a new layout and not tried them out yet. the little scene looks good. Good advice on the cancer check up. Don't wait too long like my Father and find it is too late to be treated. I have the Hattons release bought mainly for my collection and glad to hear the faults are rectified because I was not very impressed with it after paying so much for a model that had a twisted chassis faulty lights and bits falling off, the replacement they sent also had some loose bits in the packing.

Hi Dave, Another great update. Just a note re something I spotted at 3:16, where you have an S&T cable route swapping from one cess to the other - I see you have placed orange pipes under the track to presumably carry the cable across the track? As a retired S&T man of 41 years experience, I have to say that this isn’t quite right. In reality, given the number and size of the cables to be found in a typical cable route, there is no way these will all fit through orange pipe which is only intended for small core cable (eg track circuit leads or cable to a signal, etc.) Cable troughing typically contains lineside 650v power cable, signalling control and indication cables for points, signals and track circuit’s, etc, plus telecoms cable(s). What you need to depict at the point where the troughing route turns to cross the track is a UTX well - which is an under track crossing. The cables run out of the troughing, into the well and then under the track, emerging into another UTX on the other side. UTX lids are usually circular chequerplate steel, which I’m sure you can easily simulate from styrene. The left hand and right hand turn troughing pieces can be removed so the end trough connects with the well-sections and lid. Please don’t think I am nit-picking with this, Dave, but I know how hard you strive for accurate detail, so couldn’t let this one slip by! Keep up the good work.

Hi. Thanks for that. I read your comment with interest and I’m grateful for your expert experience. I am playing with a bit of artistic licence with some of the lineside cable details. And you’re not the first to give me that feedback. Thanks for taking the time to help me. It’s always helpful to have another insight. Cheers Dave

A good update overall here Dave, some good tips and some great work, nice new addition with the 66, while I’m sure it’s a good model from accurascale I’m not really going to be getting one myself, that’s because I have the hattons one and surprisingly while everyone seems to have had minor issues with them I have had a few but since it has been quite a reliable model for me so the minor changes that accurascale have made are not really that drastic for me to get another 66 anytime soon, I do intend to fit sound to mine hattons one at some point, been getting a few sound decoders myself recently ranging from hornbys HM7000 ones to the ESU ones and currently loving the playability that sound is giving me, keep up the great work Dave.

Good to see lots of progress on the layout, and that new 66 looks great!! I hope you cleaned the foam up in your garden? That stuff is really bad for the environment. Also what do you use to clean your track, I’m just wondering since your layout operates very smoothly?
@DeanPark
@DeanPark 7 ай бұрын
It was all cut on a sheet of polythene. And was collected on that and disposed of in a bin. I did it on slabs so it was easy to clean up. I use a CMX track cleaner with deluxe materials track magic (great stuff!) and a good old track rubber if it needs a quick clean. But I prefer to use the track magic.

Evidently you don't have any access problems to that corner, as you're working on it from the back, but I saw what I thought was quite a good idea if you do. Don't fix down the board straight away and work on it at the bench as a self contained diorama before installing the (more or less) finished product in your hard to reach place! Also, no leaning over already complete scenery and catenary. Nice update overall

Modellers rarely go far enough with weathering. Most of the ballast, rolling stock and locos to name a few are too pristine for realism. Take a look at Norm Charbonneaus layout to see how it should be done.
@DeanPark
@DeanPark 7 ай бұрын
Hi. The locos are a mix of pristine and weathered using photos as reference,,by professionals or accomplished modellers I know and trust. The track, differs in weathering depending on where it is on the layout. Also. When filming I’ve additional (photographer style) lights sit up to lighten the shot, this has the effect of lightening everything from the ballast, brickwork and even the lineside details. At the end ma of the layout there are LED lights differently above the layout. So that brightens it up. There is more weathering there than is evident on camera. And certainly to a level I feel comfortable adding. But I’m always adding more if I need to. To fully appreciate the weathering effects you’re best seeing it when it hasn’t gone through the lightening effects of a camera lens.
